But when you get him there he changes his mind and removal of trousers and nappy results in him emphati ally NOT sitting on toilet. I'm not sure he is actually ready since a soiled nappy does not bother him at all.
Thing is he will as or you will ask him if he wants to do a wee and he will say yes. You can explain about what you actually want him to do and he will still say yes right up until you remove his trousers. As for DS he has excellent verbal skills so I dont think that is so much the issue.

What should we do? Should we try sittinjng him on the toilet to rejnforce what you do even under protest or should we wait longer? DS is 2.6 years old.

Have him out in the garden with the potty and no nappy on

We have tried that and we are continuing with this but another annoying aspect is that he protests about his lack of trousers when running around nappy free. He isn't so bad if he is distracted for instance playing with toys.
Thing is he isn't bothered by a wet nappy and he doesn't give any signals or say if he needs a wee or a poo. We aren't sure where to start or whether we should give up and wait until later. WhT we are doing is to offer the potty at certain time of day and not to put too much pressure on him. Essentially we just aren't sure if this is the best way to do this.
