He is 3.5 and currently obsessed with being a 'big boy'. He's an independent little soul but I don't think he is ready for this, we have tried it the last 2 nights and he has wet the bed both times around 1am. After he has wet the bed he does shout for us but I don't think he is waking up to wee, it is the wet feeling that is waking him up. Both nights after he has wet the bed we've put him in nappy pants and they have been soaked by morning. My gut feeling is that he is not ready. What do you think?

It sounds as though he is not yet ready - his bladder has to develop sufficient capacity to enable him to hold on to wee all night and his system needs to have matured enough so the kidneys click into night mode and reduce the volume of urine produced so he only produces 1 bladder full. from what you are saying he is producing a lot of wee still overnight. Majority of children become dry at night by the age of 4-5 yrs so wetting the bed at 3yrs is perfectly normal. Make sure he has plenty to drink during the day as that helps his bladder the last drink an hour before bed making sure he does a big wee last thing. I would wait until he has a few dry nights as that would indicate his bladder etc is maturing.
