DD 2.9 wants to wear pants but then won't use the potty or loo.

Would really appreciate some advice from any experts out there. Have prepared for potty training by taking DD to buy pants and choosing a potty and lovely padded loo seat. She is really keen on wearing pants and I let her, explaining that she needs to tell mummy or daddy that she wants to do a wee on the potty, but she just doesn't. She suddenly seems really nervous of the potty, when she never has been before (although she has only done one wee in the potty). Do I just insist she wears a nappy until she is ready to tell us or do I let her wear pants and continue to wet herself? I have been very lovely about the whole thing and haven't told her off about any of it! Just to add to the problem, she suffers with toddler diarrhoea.

I tried potty training DS1 at about 2.9, it was a total disaster and he was getting upset about the whole thing, so we stopped after a few days. We tried again at 3.1 and he just got it instantly, I think he wet his pants about 2 times and that was it.

Definitely worth waiting until they are ready.

If you do want to persevere I think using nappies just confuses the issue. Part of the learning process is realising when they are weeing, and that involves wet pants.

The Gina Ford potty training book is useful and sensible.

Thanks so much for posting. Will just try again in a month or so. Might invest in the Gina Ford book.

They cant tell you at the beginning, you have to take them at regular intervals until the get used to the feeling or needing a wee/desperate for the loo/actually doing a wee in toilet

Am potty training ds today, so far one (big)wee on carpet immediately on putting pants on, two in toilet, and we have been going about 25 minutes Hmm
