Day 1, 8 accidents in 2 hours... too soon? (HELP)

DS is 2.7 and this is day 1 of no nappies. Since 8am we have accumulated 8 wet pants and 4 trousers. He is good at sitting on the potty and weeing when asked to, but seems to have no idea that it is coming.

Is he just not physically ready? Or is it more likely to be his stubborn-ness, laziness and getting lost in other things

Please - I need some support and advice - shall I just give up for now? I can see this being a really painful weekend and have already started on his treats

Had the same on day 1, DD started to pee in her pants and then finished on her potty . Big improvement on day 2 and 3, by now after 5 days she now understands to alert me before she starts ...
Stick with it for another couple of days

8 accidents in 2 hours would mean that he needs to pee every 15 minutes. So even if he was making the potty on time that is going to take an awful lot of your day up visiting the potty.

I would suggest he is not physically ready yet if he is not able to hold his pee in for longer.

Wait a while and try again would be my suggestion.

If potty training is the least stress or hassle, give up and try again later. Honestly, it's not worth a secon'd anxiety or potential crossness over. When they\re properl;y ready it takes 10 minutes, if you start 6 months too eary it can take 6 months and 10 minutes!

It is a bit wierd that he peed so much in very little time. Did you put him back to finish on the potty after he peed his pant?
He might be holding himself once he gets a bit wet and pee again when he feels he is dressed again. Have you try bare bottom?
Go on for a bit more.

Well he drinks quite a lot but there are lots of dribbles which sort of build up to one big wee. TBH I've never heard of anyone weeing that often! He never has a dry nappy.
And he quite often has a little dribble then I can get him on to the potty to finish it off. But there just seems to be no awareness whatsoever until it's made its appearance!
We do bare bottom quite a lot, no differnece!

Anyway.... I have admitted defeat! Maybe try again tomorrow He was getting fed up with it and I was in despair! (so soon...)

my 4th at 2 declared she was no longer wearing nappies. "Hooray" I thought " a self trainer" it took her a whole year to be dry.
Dc5 and 6 were lazy buggers. Just before their third birthdays I took their nappies off them. it took less than a week for them to be dry.
There is no point making it into a battle.

depends why you started in the first place... if it was that you thought it was time, then too early. If it was that he was giving you signs that he was ready (talking about needing a wee/poo or having dry nappies for longer etc) then might be worth sticking with it. Maybe put him back in nappies but leave the potty where he can see it and see if he starts asking for it?

I had a similar experience when I tried with DD when she was 2.3.

I really thought she was ready, she showed all the signs - had done a wee in the potty every night for a week, talked about wearing knickers, was super keen on the whole thing.

We had a first day similar to your, I persevered for another day and then just thought it was a lost cause and stopped.

About a month later she got up one morning, ran to the potty, did a wee and asked me to put knickers on her, so I did. I stuck with it for a week that time to see if she'd learn if I just gave her a chance and put no pressure on her. She rarely had accidents when we were out, so she could hold on, but at home she often had accidents.

I got potty trained, as in, I learnt the signs of her needing a wee. She still didn't seem to get it.

Eventually we came away on holidays and she basically just refused to go to the potty or the toilet, so we put her back in nappies.

I found the whole thing stressful and frustrating to an extent I don't really understand. I'm waiting and trying the seeker 10 minute method whenever she indicates she'd like to try again.
