C section bladder pain

Sorry if TMI

I wondered if anyone else has had this. I had a c section 16 weeks ago, and from the moment I had it I had discomfort while urinating. Initially my catheter was basically blood then I was oeeing blood for 3 days until it stops. Since then whenever I wee I can feel it by my c section scar like a pressure kind of or discomfort? I have had antibiotics to cover for UTI but it hasn't changed a thing and I'm actually thinking they nipped my bladder during the surgery or maybe it's adhesions?
I'm going back to GP but I'm just wondering if it's part of the healing process.

Bumping for you, I’ve had two c sections but not had this - although of course everyone heals differently!

I had severe adhesions for 14 years after my c-section. Most times, it felt like a feeling of heaviness, like something was dragging my bowels downwards. Occasionally, I felt like I had a uti without the stinging but my dipstick and cultures were clear. My ureter was squeezed at times due to adhesions but not fully blocked, which is why I had kidney stones.

if your bladder got accidentally nicked then you might have adhesions there. But it could be cystitis. Discuss with your GP for a possibility of cystitis and go from there.

@Worriedmrsyes that's how it feels like discomfort or dragging downwards when I wee. How did you get rid of them? The trouble is during the c section my epidural went wrong and I felt I couldn't breathe so panicked and started thrashing my arms etc. And I'm worried they panicked to rush things.

Thank you @1990sno one else I know has had it either which makes me feel abnormal TBF

I had many ultrasound scans over the years but adhesions can’t be seen on ultrasound. After 14 years of suffering, I had an ovarian cyst which caused too many symptoms because of pelvic congestion. Had a surgery where adhesions were confirmed and separated.

Thank you so much I hopefully will get to the bottom of it I think from sounds of it it is adhesions and I've read it early on it can be massaged and broken up so going to do that for the next month or so

Oh my gosh, yes! Like a pressure and deep pain whenever I emptied my bladder. It was only after my 2nd c section and stopped after about a year. I had forgotten about it until now.

Notmycuppatea · 09/10/2026 03:00

@tealpanda49did you do anything about it to help or get it seen to? I'm wondering if it is just part of the healing process but the tugging sensation makes me think it could be adhesions

I did not do anything, no. It was always uncomfortable but not debilitating and as it went away as soon as I was finished on the toilet, it did not overly worry me. It also crossed my mind about adhesions, especially as I only had it after my 2nd c-sec and not my 1st

Hotdoughnut · 09/10/2026 09:14

I've had 3 c sections and never had this. I'm glad you're getting checked. Be persistent and don't let them fob you off. Adhesions can cause various problems.

I think that's what my mindset was too it isn't painful but it's just a discomfort that stops soon as I'm done weeing. I'm waiting for an ultrasound but now think it's pointless but I suppose I could be referred on if it's still a problem in a few months
