C Section wound pus lump

Hi everyone !!

I’m 13 days pp and had to have an emergency c section. A week ago tomorrow I had some stitches taken out but not all as there was a bit on the wound that was still open. On Tuesday night I noticed that my dressing was coming off and there was loads of yellow pus on the dressings that don’t smell and generally unbothersome. Due to the amount of pus my midwife sent me to hospital to get it checked, they said there’s a lump on the scar and when she touched it it popped , they swabbed it and gave me antibiotics (I still don’t know what it is !!) and they’ll check it out again in a week, everything else with the scar looks ok I believe.

anyway the same thing is happening today which is annoying but I’ll just redress the wound. I’m wondering if anyone has had anything similar and how long it took to go away because it’s really annoying 😩 the hospital haven’t phoned so I’m guessing the swab came back ok?

thanks !! ☺️

Have they said to redress the wound? I’d have thought you’re better off with it being undressed and letting the air get to it? The swab could take 48 hours to grow anything from when they start processing it. So no news yet doesn’t necessarily mean good news. I would chase it up, even if that means ringing the postnatal ward tomorrow and seeing if they can see it on the system. Or can you check on the nhs app?

Thank you ! Yeah they dressed it there then gave me two spare, but I can see what they say tomorrow if I call them. I’m just stumped over what this thing could be and when it’s going to go away 😩 Thank you, I had no idea about the 48 hour thing! It will have been just over 48 hours now so hopefully they’ll be able to tell me something

Sometimes they can oooze for a few weeks. The fact the lump popped is good, it probably just needs to drain out. If you feel unwell, hot , it starts to smell, or any increase in redness you should see someone sooner rather than later. Is the dressing a silver antimicrobial dressing or an ordinary gauze type one?
