EMG1998 · 15/04/2026 18:08

Hey everyone :) I am 9 days postpartum after a c section which went mostly smoothly! However for the last few days I have had a persistent forehead headache! I have been out on meds for high blood pressure which seem to be working but can’t seem to shift the headache :( anyone had this? I know I need to do bloods so will request that tomorrow just seeing if anyone relates as it sucks thankssss xxxx

You can have a complication after a spinal called a post dural puncture headache. It can occasionally be quite serious; although day 9 is quite late for it to start. Please talk to your midwife about it and get properly checked out.

I had this, it was awful and the nurses ignored me and told me it was tiredness from being a new mum.
it was an epidural headache. Spinal fluid leaking from the epidural needle site I think.
i had something called a ‘Blood patch’ which is taking blood and filling the puncture hole. I had to lay flat until the blood clotted and the headache went fairly quickly.
does your headache get better if you lie down?

PlainSkyr · 15/04/2026 22:05

I had similar after my 1st and the headache was agonising. It was same as what @searchforthesundescribed. Horrible!
don’t mean to alarm you but it set me off on persistent migraines for years. When my 2nd was born the anaesthetist was made aware and they were careful. No headache and his time.

it can be fixed if the staff acknowledge the issue and treat it correctly.

I had this. Was ok laying down, terrible sitting up. I had to take paracetamol and drink coke! Not uncommon apparently. However, it happened 2/3 days after, def contact your midwife.

Might be worth checking to see if it's a side effect. I thought my headaches were just sleep deprivation and dehydration but they lasted a full 3 weeks till I managed to convince GP I could stop the blood pressure meds. Its so awful on top of post partum isn't it!

Definitely need to see about this, but in the meantime drink caffeine! I know it sounds weird but I was recommended it after 2 lumbar punctures and it makes a huge difference. Plus it normalised my Diet Coke addiction lol!
