Postpartum hair loss? What is normal what is not???? Please help?

this is after I haven’t washed my hair in 4 ish days? And it’s pretty much like this or maybe a little less on wash days? I wake up with strands all over my pillow? Am I going to be bald by the end of April? 😅😭

How many months PP are you?

IsItBeesThoughLooshkin · 24/03/2026 19:03

About half of all my hair fell out after each pregnancy. It came back but I spent a while with a sort of halo of shorter hair sticking up in between the longer bits! 😆

Is this a normal amount? I’m 3 month pp and this is genuinely after every hair wash. And it’s literally all over my pillows like strands I genuinely feel like a cat!😂😅

I think it’s normal, yes. It was like this for me both times, or maybe even more.

CheeryOchreCat · 24/03/2026 21:05

I think I’ve blocked this memory out 😅but I remember feeling like I was losing A LOT, especially whenever I’d wash it. Having curly hair I didn’t tend to brush it much between washes, so I think a lot of it came off in the shower.

It’s hard to say whether it’s normal without knowing what length or thickness your hair is usually, but heavy shedding is definitely part of postpartum. I seem to recall 3-4 months was around the peak of it though for me, then it started slowly calming down.

My head hair was fine but when ds was about three months, I realised I no longer had hair on my arms and v v little on my legs. It never grew back. Never really found out why.

You know that’s so strange you mention that! I feel my hair on my legs has literally disappeared!

This is sort of my hair just washed and dried not styled… I wouldn’t say it’s overly thick? But it’s definitely not on the thin or fine side. I will say it does feel the hair loss has ramped up as my DS reached 3 months old.

I am sorry to hear it happened to you but also pleased to know that I am not the only one with this kind of hair loss as I was worried maybe I am just losing way to much?

Ah thank you! It’s probably getting on the thinner side now I suppose as long as I don’t have any major bald patches I should be okay despite how much is coming out??

Just googled the same thing and this came up! Omg mine started like this a month ago (3 months PP)… clumps like this come out every shower. I’m now 4 mo the and it’s slightly less but it’s horrifying … apparently it’s normal!! I have thick hair anyway but it’s never been so thin… has it started growing back yet OP?

KrazyKatty · 15/07/2026 19:29

Don’t worry, it’s completely normal OP.

You hair carried on growing but stopped its normal amount of shedding during the whole 9 months of pregnancy so it will have felt more lush during that time.

Post partum, your hair will lose that 9 months worth of normal shedding in a shorter space of time plus the normal monthly shedding so it seems like a lot in a small amount of time but your hair growth cycle will return to it’s normal state within a year.

I have naturally thin, fine hair so enjoyed my pregnancy lush hair. It looked crap afterwards but I was too knackered to care. 😂

i am happy to say that at 7 months almost pp there is a little growth coming back in!! Still losing a fair amount in the shower BUT it has stopped coating my bed, pillow and clothes etc feeling less like a cat and more like a chia pet now lol!

I have been using a caffeine peptide serum to help stimulate my follicles that are newer coming through… MAY be worth looking into if you are interested :)) it’s definitely attributed to some newer growth a bit quicker

I am sorry to hear yours is as bad, I spoke to a dermatologist and it does seem like that much loss isn’t within the “normal” standards of PP hair loss! Which I was stunned about and sad to hear someone else is experiencing or had experienced the same.

My dermatologist told me that PCOS and PMOS and Endometriosis can all contribute to greater loss of hair due to the bigger hormone shock! I have Endo and PCOS so it was nice to be reassured it wasn’t all in my head and that also others have experienced then same!! How is yours now?

Thank you so much I will look into that! Glad yours is growing back :)

My MiL took a pic of me yesterday and my hair is soooo thin at the hair line I couldn’t believe it :(
