Is this normal? Possible vaginal fistula developing?

Hi,

Was hoping I might find some help/reassurance.

I had a forceps delivery with 3b tear and episiotomy 13 months ago. All has healed (current symptoms are slight wind incontinence sometimes, slight aching more recently (cold weather?!) and scar sensitivity when DTD- all much better than at first!), but when I’ve been doing my scar massage recently, I noticed that the back wall of my vagina isn’t firm- I can sink my finger really quite far back into the tissue/back on myself (it doesn’t go all the way through to the back passage!).

Could this be a vaginal fistula forming? It’s never been picked up at physio before and I’ve only recently got more into the scar massage and so have only just discovered it. Wasn’t sure if I needed to be worried!

thank you in advance for any help.

If it is, sticking your finger in it will not help!

Recto-vaginal fistula is serious. You would probably have symptoms though. I think this is one of those situations where you’d be best to leave it well alone & let it heal

A prolapse maybe? I would ask for referral to the post-birth pelvic clinic - a nurse checked my scar and pelvic floor in a specific clinic after my GP referred me. (NB I had a forceps delivery with 2b tear and episiotomy, but it took a very long time to heal and I have a slight prolapse.)
