Episiotomy 6 weeks pp

I had my baby 6 weeks ago and had episiotomy and 2nd degree tear. I’m still having a little bit of pain like soreness and can feel something when I wipe, my health visitor yesterday said I shouldn’t really feel any pain anymore so I had a look at it today for the first time (don’t do well with cuts) and I can see a lump/bulging bit of skin (hard to describe) to the right of my lip must of been where they did the episiotomy I can’t see any opening but I also haven’t shaved in 7 weeks so hard to see 🫣😂.

Is this bulging what I can see/feel normal or should it be flat by now?

I also had threat worm two weeks ago that I caught from my daughter so I’ve been sleeping with pants on every night. Could this have caused it not to heal right?

Have you had your 6 week ‘mum and baby’ check with the GP? If you advise your doctor that you really would like it looked at during that then they should be able to check it for you, mine did.

@LoveHearts69 I’ve got it in 2 weeks time but have a appointment with postnatal physio Tuesday (not sure what this is about they booked it me in hospital) my HV said they should look at it there and to ask the GP to see a female doctor if I want to and ask for it checked like you said so I went into the gp receptionist asked who my appointment was with they said a male doctor so I asked for a female and they said they don’t physically check me only mentally 🤔

It's hard to know what's normal and ok so please do just keep getting checked if you are not feeling ok, keep asking questions etc. Don't just get on with it and assume it's fine. Make a separate GP appointment if necessary.

I had mine 20yrs ago but I can still "feel" it sometimes, throbs a bit.

@redannie18 i had a c-section 4 years ago and I feel like even though the recovery was so hard for the first couple of weeks compared to this time round I was fully (near enough) healed by 6 weeks. Wasn’t expecting to still feel pain at 6 weeks but I do keep telling myself a whole baby has come out of there 🫣

I had exactly this eight years ago with my first DS and I was SO worried and scouring through forums to get answer

it is really unhelpful when HVs say it should have healed by now etc - you've been stitched and so there will be some skin that shows in a little bulge,
I had that too and I don't have a prolapse

here's what you need to do

  1. keep up with your hygiene.
  2. keep an eye for any signs of infection and have antibiotics if you do
  3. go see a women's physio

Yeah my 6 week check with a bloke was a waste of time. It’s literally to look for red flags MH wise it seems like. I’d just book in with a female anyway and tell them you need them to look. FWIW I only had a grade 2 and I can feel the scar is lumpy 13m later
