First postpartum period

i just want to get some opinions or I don’t really know what.. I guess I just want to know if this can be normal ?

Postpartum bleeding stopped at 5 weeks, started my period at 6 weeks (stopped breastfeeding at 3 weeks) then it’s pretty much been stopping and starting since then (baby almost 10 weeks)!

First period was 3 days of intense bleeding and then it just randomly stopped (no tapering off like a normal period), then had a couple of days break, and another day of bleeding, and again few days break, then another day of bleeding.

When it started again the third time, I went straight to the doctor who prescribed progesterone pills for ten days and said that will stop the bleeding, and to come back when my next period (or rather withdrawal from the progesterone) starts. Well it didn’t stop the bleeding and I bled for 5 days, like a normal period. It stopped on Sunday. On Wednesday I had some brown spotting, it’s now Friday, I’m still taking the progesterone (last day today) and it’s started up again!

I will of course be going back to the doctor next week but she’s off until Tuesday so I can’t get any answers until then. Can this be normal ? Is it just my hormones going crazy ? I had two back to back pregnancies if that makes a difference (16 months between births, c section)

Hi @nutellllla , I think it's probably nothing to worry about before Tuesday. Our bodies do seem to get confused/lose the pattern sometimes postpartum. For me it was more post miscarriage that I had erratic periods, as the breastfeeding stopped my period for quite a while with my DC. The gaps between periods were really short for a while post miscarriage.

I don't have any c-section experience, I'm afraid. But I do wonder if not having had all of the stuff come out of your vagina whilst you are giving birth might mean it takes longer to come out postpartum. Also, sometimes my period stops for a day and then comes back again, eg day 4 is almost nothing, then I bleed for 2 more days.

I suppose the combination of back-to-back pregnancies with short breastfeeding duration would be "unusual" for a woman's body, from a biological perspective, so that might be extra confusing for your body.

Anyway, I hope you won't worry. Sounds like you have the right idea, since you'll see the doctor next week.

Congratulations on your second DC!
