Sudden numbness 4 days after c section

Hello!
I had a c section on Tuesday (it’s now Saturday), and my scar had been tender, which I expected, but I’ve been keeping on top of it with paracetamol and ibuprofen.
in the night at around 3am, it was really tender, and I thought it was because I overdid it yesterday (it was our first day home and reunited with our toddler, so I did more than I did while I was hospital).
then this morning, all of a sudden I have numbness above the incision (and a bit of general numbness, like when I stroke my skin elsewhere i can feel it but it’s a bit muted) and hardly any pain.

I know numbness is common, but is it normal for it to come on that suddenly ?!

thanks
:)

It sounds like the nerves have essentially died. 7 years in and I still have numbness xx

Congratulations! 🎉 ❤️ I've had 3 sections 34, 19 and 18 yrs ago, same insision and it's still vaguely numb. It also aches or itches depending on the weather (I don't live in the UK) xxx

Hi. Yes, this is normal. Had my last section 7 years ago and still no feeling there. Same as someone else said, sometimes it feels itchy even now. They have to curt through 7-8 layers to get baby out so this servers nerve endings and they then die off. You're not likely to get the feeling back fully but it is normal. Congratulations on baby! Xx

Perfectly normal! The surgeon has cut through a nerve which is unavoidable in any surgery! I had an open cholecystectomy 15 years ago and still have no sensation around the scar, it’s just weird when I get an itch as I can scratch it but don’t feel myself doing it!
