Episiotomy stitches!

Hi all, I gave birth 3 weeks ago and I have an episiotomy. It looked like everything was healing well until today. A couple of my stitches have come out when I wiped which also was accompanied by a yellow discharge and now where the stitch has come out it’s bleeding. (Not loads but it’s bright red blood and I can see it looks quite red and raw)

Should I be concerned and call the doctor tomorrow or is this a normal part of healing?

Thanks!

My stitches came out quite quickly after mine. There was blood but I didn’t really worry about that. The yellow discharge would make me want to see someone to get it checked over though.

Thank you, I’ll see how I am tomorrow and if it’s the same I’ll call my doctor as I don’t really want to wait for my 6 week check up! X

i think you should phone the post natal ward and get seen as that indicates infection, best to get it treated before you become really unwell If it is an infection! Hope you feel better soon xxx

Hi thank you,
When I’ve looked online it says it’s called lochia Alba and apparently it’s normal to get yellow discharge towards the end of postpartum bleeding so I’ll see how I go tomorrow! Thank you! Xx

Thank you! Did it stop bleeding the next day? X

It just bled periodically really, I think just with movement etc as long as it wasn’t gushing and I had no signs of infection I assumed all was well and just healing. Obviously just make sure you’re keeping the area clean but if you’re at all concerned I’d give your midwife a call tomorrow (or earlier if it’s heavy bleeding) just for piece of mind, you want to enjoy your time without the worry if possible!
