Did anyone develop intolerances after quitting BFing or am I going insane?

I’m 1 year pp and have tapered off BFing, with a big drop when I went back to work three weeks ago and then stopping for good about a week ago.

This is really weird, but my digestion has been all over the place since then. After frolicking around drinking oat milk flat whites in cafes for the best part of my mat leave, I now can’t tolerate coffee AT ALL and actually had a near-accident on Tuesday after one. There’s also definitely something else causing me to flare up but I can’t pinpoint what it is. I’ve cut out dairy- my boy had CMPA so I haven’t had it for ages anyway, but there’s STILL something. I followed the BRAT diet for a bit last week, which helped, but as soon as I’m back on normal food it starts again.

What makes all of this extremely sub-optimal is that I had a 3rd degree tear delivering my son. I’ve been absolutely fine day-to-day, seeing a women’s health physio on the reg and doing my exercises religiously. But if I’ve got an upset stomach it becomes very scary to leave the house.

I emailed the physio and she said it won’t be to do with the tear because when she checked me in March everything was in ok shape and it wouldn’t deteriorate this quickly. But she did say don’t get diarrhoea. Saw a consultant on Thursday (routine follow-up) and he agreed.

Please tell me it’s just hormonal fluctuations and this isn’t my life now.

Yes me... I got a very specific intolerance/allergy since I had my first DC 2 years ago. Think apples but not pears or blue berries but not other berries. Hoping i will grow out of it but apparently normal

Thanks so much! Did you have to do an elimination diet to find out what it was or was it extremely obvious?

Wondering if I’m going to have to do BRAT until I die or relactate and breastfeed my son forever. Neither option appeals.

I’ve also started a different probiotic today- I had a gummy one that is full of sweeteners which could be causing it.

I was quite lucky as it was quite obvious. I get quite sick (vomiting, tummy aches, sweating) within 10minutes.

I cut dairy out for two years due to baby having CMPA and since going back to eating it again, been having similar reactions to you. And eczema flare ups, especially if I have too much cheese, love cheese! I'll cut dairy out again for couple of weeks and things go back to normal. Can't give cheese up, again though.

yes! this is a thing

Superfoodie123 · 13/04/2025 21:29

Yes I have this. Dairy makes my eyes swell up and itch after 2nd dc.

Thanks all. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of it soon!
