Newborn not pooping

My baby boy is nearly 3 weeks old now and hasn't had a 'proper' poo in over two weeks. I say 'proper' because Last Thursday there was a little bit in his nappy, more of a stain, and a bit around his bum too but not a big one at all.

He is exclusively breastfed and is gaining weight (above his birthweight now) He is passing wind, weeing a lot, and we have tried everything from bicycle legs and warm baths to tummy massages but nothing is working

Midwife / paediatricians have checked him and are happy that he is doing all the things above and that nothing seems to be of concern. I keep being told that it will probably happen in a few days but how long do I leave it before it starts to be a problem?

Baby sometimes strains like he needs a poo and get a bit upset but then is fine a few moments later - probably just trapped wind?

Has anyone experienced anything like this and can offer some advice?

Severely anxious first time mum here!!

My son used to go 10-14 days between poos and would then have a massive explosion. If everything else seems fine, he’s gaining weight, and medical professionals have checked him over then you might give it a bit longer, but if your gut feeling is that something isn’t right then don’t be afraid to take him to be checked and get a second opinion.

I’d say that it’s unusual at 3 weeks but glad that the Paediatricians are ok about it. If you are worried do check with them again Flowers
