Postnatal vitamins

Hello,

During pregnancy I took Vitabiotics Pregnancy vitamins (the all singing all dancing super strength one which was 2 x tablets plus a large liquid omega capsule).

I briefly used their Breastfeeding vitamins but it was the same again (3 large tablets) and they weren’t cheap / came in 28 pack which I kept forgetting to re-buy.

Please can mums recommend any other vitamins they used and found effective after birth?

many thanks

I just kept taking the cheapest prenatals, plus iodine!

Please don’t take the cheap ones. You might as well flush your cash down the loo. Your body can’t absorb the majority of them. You need a solgar or. wild nutrition or similar. These are made in a way which is easily absorbed by the body. As for fish oils, you need mercury free esp as BF. Eye Q ones from Boots are decent.

Complete rubbish. They're all regulated and the cheap ones are basically no different/very similar to the expensive ones.

I wish this were true. There’s a great deal of research about how the vitamins you take are extracted and what they’re extracted from and how they are absorbed by the body. They’re regulated in terms of how much they have in them and that they are safe for human consumption but not how well they are absorbed by the body.

I’m an acupuncturist and a nutritionist.

Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist in the UK so that doesn't really add any weight to your argument. Neither does sticking needles in people 🥴

You’re very welcome to keep taking your supplements. I would suggest doing a little research though. Let me know if you’d like me to direct you to some.

I'll take my directions from actual doctors, like I have been doing. Thanks 👍

Sadly doctors don’t know that much about vitamins, particularly GPs. I’ve been a Nutritionist in the NHS for 35 years.

I would prefer to speak to a dietician. Thanks though.
