When does period return after c section?

Hi I'm 15 weeks post c section and my period still hasn't returned, is this normal? My health visitor told me to speak to gp but I don’t want to book an appointment if it's normal. I am exclusively breastfeeding if that makes any difference. Thanks

C section doesn't make any difference. My periods returned at 9 months post section as my feeding reduced. It's the breast feeding that stops the periods

Yes as PP says, it's breastfeeding that can (doesn't always) affect your periods returning. Mine didn't return until DD was 18 months old but returned at 4 months for my first DD, who I struggled to breastfeed and switched to formula at 1 month old.

Method of delivery doesn't make a difference.

9 months here too. It’s ebf rather than the c section. I’m surprised the health visitor didn’t know!

I think I was hard done by! I had a section and breastfed and mine were back after 6 weeks!!

I'm surprised that the HV told you to speak to the GP if you're EBF, that shows a lack of knowledge on her part.

My AF returned around 18 months both times. It usually coincides with the reduction of night feeds. Some Women do have AF return much earlier though, it can be a bit of an unlucky dip.

I didn't have a c section but mine returned with a bang 3 months PP had to use maternity pads again was that heavy and showed up again 3 weeks later .

Absolutely normal. 9 months with both of my BF babies. Your HV has a bit of a gap in her knowledge!

sakura06 · 09/10/2024 17:38

I don't think there's any telling! I EBF both of mine and with DD1 she was 8 weeks when it came back and DD2 was 8 months!

It doesn't make a difference if you have a c section or vaginal delivery. If you're EBF your period isn't likely to return this soon.
Mine didn't return until I was down to 1 feed a day!
Can't believe your HV said see GP!

I'm glad I asked on here now. I would've felt really embarrassed wasting the GPs time.
I think my hv is new in her role which might explain why she told me to speak to gp.
Thanks all
