C section scar bleeding 7 weeks post partum

Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar or has some advice…

so I am 7 weeks post partum with my 3rd baby… I have had 3 c sections.

a few days ago, I felt my scar stinging a little but didn’t think much of it. Admittedly, I haven’t really been taking much notice of the scar itself; it hasn’t been sore so I’ve just been getting on with looking after the children.

but last night, I suddenly thought to take a look at the scar. With my other two, they healed nicely and quickly so I was quite surprised last night to see the scar quite uneven and quite red in places - not the surrounding skin, but the scar itself. These red areas also seemed a little thicker, more open, if that makes sense.

ive also felt a few more stings/twinges in the scar today…. But I’m not sure whether I’m just imagining that given I’m a bit anxious about it.

Anyway, tonight, one side of my scar suddenly started to bleed a small amount.

I went straight to the walk in centre to get checked. The dr said that 95% of the scar looks great, just the bit that’s bleeding is a bit odd. She gave me 5 days of antibiotics as a precaution and applied a dressing to that area of the scar.

has anyone experienced something similar? A skin infection after 6 weeks? Looking for some comfort I guess.

Not to usual to get an Infection, perhaps you’ve been so busy that you’ve not given it the attention it needs. Keep it clean and dry.

I think you’re probably right. I also wore some ‘normal’ knickers the other day rather than maternity over the bump ones and they ended up rolling down, probably resting and rubbing on the scar … which in hindsight is probably when some of this started.

How long it it take to heal in the end? I just got over an infection after being on IV antibiotics and it’s started bleeding again 😫

Hi @efmKa sorry to hear you've had an infection and it's bleeding again! I think it settled down after the antibiotics and a bit more attention (eg dabbing it dry after the shower and wearing much looser knickers that didn't sit across the scar. How many weeks PP are you? Worth getting it checked if it's bleeding. Could it be from where clothing has rubbed? Sending love

Thanks for replying @HallidayJones6779. yeah I think the scab has been knocked. The doctor told me on my last day of IV to not get it wet at all so I have been avoiding getting it wet. I am 4 weeks pp, honestly over this. How long did it take for yours to close over and stop bleeding?

how rubbish. I must've been around 8-9 weeks PP when it finally stopped giving me issues. That was my third section though - my other two had healed by about 5 weeks. 4 weeks is still early, try to take it super easy and keep a cotton sanitary pad over it to protect it if it helps. I also used 'expert midwife - spritz for bits' on the scar after I had this infection. I think it's only natural stuff but I'm sure it helped. Xx
