Post Natal Anxiety

Hi All I am nearly 3 weeks post birth and my anxiety has been increasing every day, I have also been crying every day but not because I’m sad or depressed but because I’m just so worried that everything I am doing is wrong and I am finding it so so hard!

Anyway I have known for the last week I need to do something about it as it’s taking away from the enjoyment of the time with my baby. But I have been putting off doing anything as it’s just another hard thing I need to do. However, last night my Husband said he was really worried about me and has asked me to call and talk to someone.

so my question is who do I speak to? Who do I call? I have been signed off from the midwife service. But I can still call the hospital triage, or should I call the Health Visitor or is it straight to my GP?

Anyone have any advice?

Will they just put me on some medication or will they offer actual proper counselling? (Not rubbish CBT)

In my experience, I told the HV and she got me a same day GP appointment. So you could try that, or go straight to GP.

As you have a child under the age of one, you should be prioritised for talking therapies. I had some face to face sessions on the NHS and it was really useful, although subsequently needed more intensive therapy which I used my private health insurance for.

They might also suggest medication and in my experience that was vital to help me feel better.

Good luck and well done for recognising you need help. It sounds like you have a supportive husband too - make sure you lean on that and ask him for help.

The weeks and months after having a baby are so difficult 💐

Is there anything you’d like to talk about on this thread to help in the meantime, eg how was your birth, how’s feeding going etc?

Oh and I specifically told the talking therapies team that I didn’t want CBT as it hadn’t worked for me well in the past. So I was offered more traditional counselling. I had a lot of background issues that surfaced once I had a baby of my own so I needed to talk… a lot!

I went straight to the GP, medication really helped.
