Breast feeding issue - any tips please?!

By any chance , does anyone have any tips for this breast feeding issue I’m having - one boob keeps filling up too fast and getting borderline engorgement , baby finds it hard to feed on this breast as the milk comes out so fast and so much of it is there . I’m trying to keep alternating and keeping the time on each breast equal as possible, but the engorged breast needs more relief /emptying. However, it doesn’t get fully emptied when baby feeds on it, as it’s too much and by the next feed, even though it’s the other boobs turn, it’s more full again ! Any ideas to consider ? thanks a lot x

Can you hand express from it? Just ever so slightly to soften it. Don't pump from it as this just tries the breast to make even more milk but a slight hand pump into a muslin cloth worked wonders for me in those early days.
Congratulations btw

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply , I’ll try again to hand express a little before I offer it or after he starts and pulls off , as he gets very upset and pulls off after 10 seconds or so . For some reason when I tried hand expressing earlier I wasn’t getting the flow going very well .

I used to do exactly what the pp suggests: just let it out into a muslin, no actual pumping just gentle hand expressing. It will settle down.

and don’t get freaked out if feeds seem very short: you don’t say what age your baby is, but they get good at feeding very quickly.

I had this...agree with hand expressing slightly just to soften it. Also feed in a reclined position/lying down will slow down milk flow. How old is baby? As they get bigger they will be able to cope with it better. The more engorged boob is now the favourite as it comes out faster and less effort (baby now 12months).

Tysm ladies!! Will try work on the hand expression and now that you mention it, the feeds I do lying down /side lying go better. Baby is one month x

Could you try a hakaa on it while feeding from the other boob then swap over when the flow is more manageable? Good luck x

Oh bless you, it's a horrid feeling when your breast doesn't totally empty. As your baby is only a month, your body is still working out how much she needs.

I would hand express into a muslin after she comes off the breast - but stop when you're empty or your body will think you need to keep making more milk.

Hand express in the shower before a feed (if you can). The warm water really helps and like previous said it just takes the edge off .... might help get some supply into your other breast too!
