What is this blacky brown sludge? Period? Infection? Help me I'm freaking out

Hey ladies

So I had my LG via planned c section 9+5 weeks ago.

I have no infections and I have healed very well.

When I first had baby I bled for about 10 days.

When she was 4 weeks old bang on, I had what I thought was my first period. It was bright red and extremely heavy and lasted around 12 days

I started my second period today. Well I think it's my period as I had all the usual pms symptoms I used to get. I noticed when it first started it was light brown with small amounts of clots and a little sticky. I went back to the bathroom couple hours later to change my pad and the "blood" was a really dark brown almost black. It also seems unusually sticky and not like blood at all.

Now I'm panicking. Has anyone had this? Is it normal? Could I have an internal infection or is it just something else. There is spots of red blood coming through aswel but a lot more of this brown sticky discharge stuff.

Sorry for TMI just want to know if anyone had anything similar.

Thanks

Without meaning to be grim, does it smell bad?

Lochia can last for six to eight weeks, according to the internet - and mine was black and a bit sludgy in its last few days (I bled for about five weeks).

However, I was told to contact my doctor if it had tapered off and then became heavy again, and/or if it smelled bad. Does that apply?

It completely stopped and it wasn't this dark before or as thick and sticky. The lochia after the baby was brown and alot thinner. This is really thick. The little air pockets of the sanitary towel were all fully blocked from it. If that makes sense.

No smell and not painful. I've been getting a lot of headaches but think that's unrelated

Really obvious question: you haven’t left a tampon in? Sorry, I know it’s a gross question.

Havent experienced anything like that, I’m afraid. At the very start of a period, I sometimes get very dark blood but it is clearly blood, I wouldn’t say it’s sticky or sludgy. I’d call the doctor in the morning - I don’t think that sounds normal, from my experience of post natal bleeding after two pregnancies.

Sorry not to be of more help.

No I haven't put any tampons in. I'm too scared to use them until my periods settle down.

Now I'm doubting it's a period because it's very light this morning but still very dark

Will make a gp appointment first thing Monday to rule out anything

It sounds like old blood. I've had this from time to time a couple of days after my period has stopped.

Did this get better for you?
