Not losing weight!

I know this is a ridiculously vain thread but I'm struggling...

Breastfeeding apart from one bottle of formula during the night and I am not losing any weight 🙁 I'm walking every day, not restricting my calories but also not snacking. I'd say I eat fairly normally- shredded wheat and banana for breakfast, ham salad sandwich for lunch, maybe a decaf latte 4 times a week then a normal bog standard dinner e.g. spag Bol, roast chicken, salad and new potatoes. I aim to drink at least 2L of water a day.

I am 5'4 and now weigh 13stone 6lbs 😫 I have never weighed more than 11 stone in my life. Has anyone else experienced this? Everything I read says that I won't lose the weight while breastfeeding and that dieting will tank my supply and also send my body into shock and make me lethargic and cold while holding onto the calories.

I just want to feel more like me again.

Sorry should add- baby is 7 weeks and 3 days old.

I'm not expecting it to happen overnight, it's just worrying me that the scales are literally staying the same.

I don't have any advice but I can completely empathize with you.

The same thing happened to me with both of my pregnancies. It's the most frustrating thing. With my first, it didn't start to go down again until I stopped breastfeeding. My second is 5 months now and the same thing is happening. I'm the same weight now as when I left the hospital with her. I track calories and I'm very active. It's so so so frustrating. I'm 2 stone heavier than my "normal". I don't recognize myself at all.

Trying to have compassion for myself and focusing on staying active and doing more weight training to get stronger than before. Hoping it'll pay off in the long run.

I know it's not that helpful but just know you aren't alone!

I know it's disheartening but 7 weeks PP and you're worried ? Seriously your womb is probably still a little swollen at this point so to be thinking about loosing weight is a bit ambitious! I'd give yourself a year to feel yourself again. I know it seems like a lot but you can't expect to be loosing weight at 7 weeks. Your body is focusing of breastfeeding a baby - not loosing the weight. Give yourself time.

Unfortunately I think your body tends to cling onto weight when breast feeding to keep a 'reserve'. Not sure if you'd consider stopping but it was the only thing that helped me drop the weight.

Remember also, it's not a race to be back to your pre baby weight. Think longer term and think about building back strength over 9 to 12 months. Not weeks. Your joints will thank you. I fucked my knees by exercising too often too soon after my first baby and have permanently damaged my knees. I can now exercice again but that's 4 years of building back my strength properly and not rushing back into exercise about baby 2. It's not a race. It's about being able to keep it off this time next year

Hopefully not helpful but it took me AGES to lose baby weight even though I was assured breast feeding would help- I mean 4 years though lock down and extended breastfeeding were factors as was not putting on a huge amount of baby weight (so 55kg to 62 when the baby was out )

When I stopped feeding my weight reduced

MsRosewater · 10/04/2023 21:43

Sorry should add it's so hormonally driven- I was v chubby as a teenager . Hormones settled & weight fell off. Same with breast feeding

But I'd never give up those years of BF for the sake of skinny . And 7 weeks is
F**k all- just take care of yourself x

Not helpful but I am also in your position! Though 5 weeks post partum today, I gained 2 stone in pregnancy, lost one stone within the first week and have gained 5lb back since. I am snacking a lot, but not enough to warrant gaining weight. Everyone tells you breastfeeding will make the weight fall off but it seems to be the opposite :( not that I would stop for that reason but it’s annoying!

I wonder if you’re not eating enough? I’m a similar height/weight and my LO is 6 months so further on but I’m eating probably twice that amount. I’ve been doing WW and losing 1-2lbs a week since she was 3 months. It’s very early days so try not to worry

daftheduck · 08/05/2023 00:03

@violetcuriosity @DailySnail did either of you have any luck? Am in same position 12w PP and it's getting me down a lot. Not going to stop BF yet but need hope that some old clothes may eventually start fitting!
