Hiya mummas I’m 5 weeks postpartum and was just wondering when everyone got their first period postpartum and what were the symptoms leading up to it I started having sex at 1 week pp using the pull out method we’ve always used this apart from when we were TTC

for the past couple of days I’ve had stomach cramps that are like period pains increased discharge tender boob (left one) and on and off headaches
so just wanted to know if these were symptoms my period was returning or whether I should take a test and if so how long does it take for HCG levels to normalise so the test is accurate

thank you have a blessed day :)

AF arrived four & a half weeks after birth; and lasted a gruelling 17 days for me.

If I were in your shoes though (given the unprotected sex) I'd be taking a pregnancy test for sure! Maybe speak to your HV to ask for advice in regards to the HCG levels.

17 days that sound awful did you have any signs your period was returning?

I got mine 8 weeks PP, so I took a while to get back into things! I would definitely take a test as apparently you're more fertile after having a baby!

bracemyselfagain · 01/04/2023 00:15

@DaniTTC

I can't say for sure I noticed any real obvious symptoms that my period was returning; I had a pretty difficult birth & almost everything hurt, so maybe that's why Blush
As a PP has already mentioned ... being more fertile after having a baby; I was told by a Midwife in the hospital to be extra cautious within the first 21 days because there's a very high chance of pregnancy straight afterwards.

Jeez having sex was the last thing on my mind after having a baby!! Withdrawal is also a pretty immature form of contraception but each to their own!
Your first period will be really heavy and you should wear a sanitary pad. Depending on whether you're breast feeding then it comes back after a few months.

Never understand people like you. Do you know you're not supposed to have sex this soon because you're at high risk of very serious infections until your internal wound has healed? Why risk being unwell and separated from your newborn baby?

Isthisexpected · 01/04/2023 15:16

And mine came back at 8 weeks the first time even though exclusively breastfeeding but you can be fertile beforehand anyway!

Take no notice, some people just look for any excuse to be rude on here!!

DaniTTC · 02/04/2023 11:56

Update: took a pregnancy test today and it was negative will take another one next week just to be sure if I don’t get my period before then
also my partner is allergic to latex and we don’t really like condoms anyways and the sexual health clinic won’t put me on contraception until I’ve had my 6 week check

@DaniTTC
You don't need to explain/justify for using the method that you do :)
Goodluck with everything.

1 week, fair play ha. I bled for weeks after having my babies so wouldn’t have ever been an option but I would not have been up for it at all.

Honestly I surprised myself too being up for it I think it’s because luckily I had a very easy and quick delivery and I stopped having sex when I was around 6 months pregnant 😂
