peeing after stiches

have 2nd degree tears with epidural.

Peeing STINGS. I’m scared for the first poo. Any way to stop the stinging? i have to go toliet after all.

Lean ALL the way forward. Seriously, as far as you can. Pour warm water over yourself as you pee or pee in the shower. First poo take your time, make sure you’re drinking loads and take some lactulose if you like. You got this. It’s awful but it doesn’t last long

Use a jug to pour warm water down there when you wee or go in the shower. Get some lactulose from your local pharmacy, this will make your stool really soft so it won't hurt when you go.

I agree with PP about leaning forward. After both my DDs I basically put my hands on the floor so my bum was sort of up (very dignified!), and then the wee didn't really touch the stitches.

Water or pee in the bath or shower. If you have a detachable shower head just take your bottom (clothes) off and do it that way; you don’t get your whole body wet then.

Agree with leaning forwards so the wee doesn't go over your stitches and I used to either pour a jug of warm water or sprayed water down there whilst weeing too

thank you. i just given birth this morning FTM so all new. The stiches hurt to even sit down in some positions!

You can put witch hazel on maternity pads in the freezer which helps. Anything cold Down There. Peas wrapped in a tea towel very effective! Keep on top of your pain relief, and a massive congratulations!!

Congratulations and a huge well done! 👏🏼 Put warm water on a maternity pad and hold it against your stitches while you poo. That worked well for me after both DC. It'll honestly be fine😊

Drink constantly, the more hydrated you are, the less acidic your wee is and the less it stings.

It doesn't last long, feel for you, I remember it well x

I filled a washing up bowl with warm water and peed in that.

wee - agree with leaning forward
poo - put your feet up on a stool so knees are up and take medicine given to soften stools.

Congrats lovely!!
I had the expert midwives spritz for bitz post birth.. excellent for healing quickly and also contains numbing properties so I used it before and after weeing and didn’t experiencing any stinging with the same tear highly recommend.
everyone’s scared of the first poo it’s never as bad as you think! X

I was OK peeing, but terrified of pooing. Midwife suggested I hold a clean piece of gauze over my front bits and stitches while going, to give myself the peace of mind that it would be clean down there and that I wouldn't fall apart. Seemed to help. Did it for the first few days, then felt more confident. Good luck and congrats on your baby :)

thanks for all the advice and lovely messages…. the peeing is stinging but getting bearable now …. sitting /being in a few positions hurts still though especially with epidural pain from back

100% this. Pressing a pad on your bits really helps and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be, the thought of it was worse than the reality.

Also I used spritz for bitz all the time and was really good and gave me peace of mind that it was al clean and healing
