Nipple thrush

I think I have thrush, have some stabbing pains after feeding and white on nipples. I have antifungal cream at home so been using that since yesterday. It’s the same as the one the doc would prescribe (according to Google). If I have the shooting pains in the breast does that automatically mean I will need tablets too and should phone the doc? Or could the cream clear it on its own. I’m expressing not directly breastfeeding and so far baby seems unaffected. I was antibiotics for c section scar infection so think that’s what has caused it. Thanks

Sorry that you didn't get any replies on this one @Pheepa.

How are things now?

Thanks, the cream seemed to help thankfully. Though was prescribed a 2nd course of antibiotics today so thinking I may be in the same boat in a few days!

Poor you!

There's a few articles on thrush here.

It might be worth giving one of the BFing Helplines a call too as they will have the most up to date information Flowers

It can get quite/very painful if it gets into the milk ducts. I would seek advice from la leche league and doctor too. If baby does get it it can make feeding hurt their mouth. You can see a white coating inside their mouth if they get it and this can be treated by a prescribed gel/cream.

if you are having more antibiotics I’d follow a low sugar diet for a while (it thrives on sugar) and take acidophilus (order online or get from Holland and Barrett - it’s a probiotic, strong one). Avoid too much yeast in food too eg bread. Wash bras on high heat as spores can stay in the fabric. Boil bottle teats as well.

Hopefully it’ll go easily for you or turn out not to be thrush. Best wishes and congratulations on your baby
