Postpartum weight gain

As if my body didn’t feel alien enough already, I have no idea why I am gaining weight!

6 weeks post partum - lost the first 10 of 15kg I gained within the first three weeks without doing anything. Been keeping an eye on what I’m eating from a nutrition point of view, aiming for 1900 calories to keep milk supply and tracking with My Fitness Pal as I did for years before getting pregnant. Getting at least 10k steps a day and started running again this week.

Despite this, my weight has steadily been going up for the last few weeks, with a kilo gained in total from my lowest weight. I know it’s not the end of the world and I shouldn’t be worrying about my weight, but I don’t want it to keep going up and up!!

Am I just not tracking properly? Eating more than I think? Boob weight? Help me please!!

Are you breastfeeding?

In general I've found those first couple of months I was really prone to hormonal changes, which would make me bloat and retain water etc at certain points.

I am - I really hope that’s just it! I know I should just step away from from the scales but I don’t want to jump on in three months time and see I’ve gained 5kg back! I feel better in myself and don’t look like I’m gaining weight but I know from experience that’s not always a good indicator.

If your breastfeeding, don't worry about it right now. Your body is purposely holding onto fat stores to feed your baby.

I would also be eating more calories. I have 1750 a day to lose fat gradually with exercise. You're exercising and BF, don't you need an extra 500 calories a day for BF?

@Undermearmour I worked it out with a TDEE calculator, 1900 should give me plenty to cover and keep milk supply. Baby’s gaining weight rapidly and is a proper little chunk so no problems with supply.

I know it should be the least of my worries right now, and I know my body will hold on to fat so maybe I won’t lose, but why am I gaining??

Hey, it is so common to put weight on after pregnancy. I have just started a blog with a fitness and wellness in pregnancy series. We just interviewed a personal trainer and next month we are doing a Q&A with a certified yoga teacher and masseuse on exercises you can do and massages to help your joints. Let me know if there's any questions you'd like me to put towards her :)
