Suddenly bleeding again 5 weeks after birth

Hi, so I gave birth 5 weeks 4 days ago. I had bleeding for the first week or so but absolutely nothing since. This evening I have started bleeding, the amount is similar to what the first day of my period is like. However I’m breastfeeding so now I’m starting to worry!
I read on nhs website that your period will start once baby starts eating solids or when you stop night-time breastfeeding, so now I’m paranoid that my baby is not eating enough at night and has caused my period to come back!

Even if you are breast feeding your periods can come back. It is a myth that breast feeding stops you ovulating - it does some people but not all. If it seems like your period it probably is. I would only wonder if I was having significant pain, there was a bad smell to the bleeding or I was having to change protection every hour.

Sorry posted too soon if baby is putting on weight lots of dirty/ wet nappies then they'll be fine . But see your health visitor if you are really worried.

I had this with my first dc and yep, it was my period despite constant breastfeeding. I felt robbed! My periods returned to normal straight away, but with my subsequent dc breastfeeding did seem to delay its return. No real reason for it that I can see, you’re just unlucky!

My periods came back at exactly 28 days after the birth of both my children.

Either your period is back or you haven't actually finished with lochia from the birth - sometimes overdoing it physically can make you start bleeding again. I doubt it's anything to do with your baby's feeding though - some women do get their period even when breastfeeding. And one week is a very short time to have lochia after birth, so I'd wonder if that never really properly finished.

I had this at 7 weeks and thought my period had returned. But it was a one off and it was months before I bled again.

Thank you all so much for your speedy replies! I immediately went into panic mode so you’ve definitely made me feel better! I’ve not had any pain so I will keep an eye on it and see how it goes
