Postnatal midwife checks

Not sure if I'm posting in the right place or not... I'm due my 5 day postnatal check soon, I've just given birth via c section and obviously in pain, the hospital is 45 mins drive away and I've been asked to go in to the hospital for the 5 day check for an early time appointment. I really don't feel up to going, it's a few days away but just doesn't seem right that I'm expected to do this, I thought these checks were carried out at the patient's home? I've had the day 3 home visit. Is it because they're short staffed?
Not sure if I'm being precious about it or not really...

Hello Lilyx18, I had a c section too recently. I'm going through same thing. I know some health visitors are picking and choosing who they want to see, some are playing games blaming covid restrictions for not visiting people, while in secret they are visiting "important risk people" only, like who are the important people only? I found out this lie. Health visitors should put every postnatal person as priority. The healthcare system is totally f-ked up, you must chase them up with this, phone them, even email them if you can.

I didn't get day 3 or 5 back in January - I was sent home after 2 nights whilst my twins stayed in NICU and i had to do a 40'mins each way trip
To be with them each day. Chase it up but you will get the same response about covid and home visits

Same here- I had the day 3 at the hospital. Day 5 I was at home in agony unable to go back to hospital, my husband called to cancel appt and they offered to come to us, was so glad they did as removed my stitches and prescribed stronger painkillers and felt so much better after- give it a try

I had a c section in 2019 and had to go to the clinic for my day 5 check. I think it's pretty standard to be honest. If you can't manage it though, definitely call and tell them!

Yep same for me in January and due to no childcare I had to hobble from the car (leaving husband and toddler) to the clinic pushing pram through the hospital.

I think it's a covid thing. With my first in 2018 day 5 check was at home and I had a reasonable ok vaginal birth.

At my day 5 check post c section in the hospital - thinking back they spent much of the appointment telling me how i mustn't overdo things. But she was good at doing everything for the baby - ie lifting from the pram, undressing and redressing the baby while I was slumped in a chair exhausted from making the hospital trip.
