Heavy 1 month, bled another month, now 3 months of yellow sticky trickle...will it ever end? Had swabs, all clear, so apparently this is "normal". Is it? Google says this doesn't happen! May I please ask did any of you have it go on for months like this?

See another GP. They should give antibiotics to be on safe side i would have thought.

GrossForever · 04/08/2021 04:19

Will antibiotics make it stop? I don't feel like I have an infection, no temperature or anything, already had course of antibiotics after birth (which upset my and bf baby's digestion so not keen to have more unless needed). Just want it to stop so I can feel confident to return to exercise, swimming, sex without it worsening or getting an infection.

Can you afford a private OB/ Gyn?

GrossForever · 04/08/2021 06:06

I'd rather not shell out for private unless there's a real need.

Ask to see another GP for second opinion or get a gynae referral. I don't think it's normal, no.

Temple29 · 04/08/2021 06:27

Definitely another GP. I had this for 4 months postpartum and was prescribed hormones to stop it and that worked.

GrossForever · 04/08/2021 07:14

Thanks, that sounds unanimous that I do need to go back to GPs (it's a different one every time anyway!)

Temple29 thanks that's interesting about the hormones. Glad it worked for you.

Go back to the GP. None of us are doctors

JohnnyEnglish · 05/08/2021 20:04

@GrossForever I had similar but heavy bleeding and didn’t feel unwell or any other sign of infection and was given broad spectrum antibiotics to be on safe side. Stopped bleeding within a week. I’m not a medic. Definitely try and see another GP.

zgaze · 05/08/2021 20:06

I had exactly this, same yellow sticky discharge and bled for months - like you nothing showed up on swabs but in the end was prescribed some broad spectrum antibiotics and it eventually cleared up.

GrossForever · 05/08/2021 20:57

Thank you JohnnyEnglish and zglaze. At least I don't have to worry that I'm the only person this ever happened to, though I'm sorry you had it too. It's good to hear that antibiotics cleared it up for you, I will go back to GP. Thank you.

I had this for 6 months , had an internal scan which showed nothing. Doctor put it down to hormones settling and that was that. 2.5 years later my periods now last a week plus a further week of spotting.

Blondiecub0109 · 05/08/2021 21:01

Sorry another one here who’s weird bleeding stopped after a broad spectrum AB. I was told if it went on much longer (and this was only 5 weeks, but post ELCS) to have a course of mini pill to reset my hormones

Newmumfeb2021 · 07/08/2021 18:26

I’m still having lochia. Had several antibiotics. I’m 23 weeks pp. should I refer to GP as well??

Newmumfeb2021 · 07/08/2021 18:27

Just to add gynaecologist said I have had infection but no temperature etc. I’ve had USS as well and everything is fine.

Tor88 · 16/11/2023 23:19

@GrossForever realise this is old but just in case you see this wondered what happened?? I'm currently 5 months PP and I have the exact same issue, still having really heavy discharge... Thanks 🙏

GrossForever · 17/11/2023 00:38

It reduced a bit at 6 months on weaning and stopped when I quit breastfeeding. Must have been hormonal.

Hi there I am 4 months PP and having the exact same issue and wondering how you're getting on? Can't find a thing on the Internet about it and the GP just keeps checking for infection and tells me to come back after 2 weeks if it hasn't stopped. Don't know whether to worry or carry on. Also BF and thinking it might stop once I finish.

Tor88 · 21/12/2023 08:08

@LJP2017 I'm now 6.5 pp and it's pretty much tapered off ...

Maaofatoddler · 21/12/2023 11:21

@LJP2017 it'll take some time but eventually you'll get there. I'm shocked how nobody mentions this - maybe it's common maybe it's a few among thousands. Don't worry too much. I worried a lot and used up thousands of sanitary napkins I think. But it's fine and it stopped after weaning off BM.

LJP2017 · 28/12/2023 17:30

So strange, some days I could go without a panty liner but then other days I would definitely need one. It actually looked rather green instead of yellow yesterday but back to the usual today. Doesn't have a foul smell and I have no other symptoms. I'm due to go back for another swab. Hopefully it stops when I wean.

MyNavyLemur · 11/12/2024 19:47

@LJP2017 did this stop when you stopped bf? I’m 12 months PP and still getting this! Haven’t stopped BF yet though and still haven’t had a period so wondering if it’s hormone related or I need to worry!
