Hi guys, I have a 4 month old and bad postnatal depression. I've been taking sertraline for 8 weeks now, I still don't feel like my progress has been great and it makes me anxious I will never feel normal again. I'm currently Taking 100mg a day and was wondering if anyone else is taking the same? And how long it took to feel better after having pnd

I haven't had experience of certraline or pnd (I'm not yet a mum), but wanted to send hugs and let you know you aren't alone. I've suffered with depression and anxiety for around 7 years and it's hard. Keep talking to your GP about progress and see if there are any talking therapies that they can provide. Medication and talking therapies together are generally the best combination to tackling depression and anxiety. Hope things get a little brighter soon Thanks

I think if after 8 weeks you arent seeing an improvement, go back and ask to try something else.
Ive tried a few antidepressants that didnt suit me at all or help much, but am quite settled now on fluoxetine finally. Dont give up. Everyone suits different ones xx

Thank you guys. I've seen a slight improvement as I'm able to go out more now but feel like I probably need a higher dose but it scares me to be on 150mg. Also does anyone get really intense dreams/nightmares on antidepressants? and sometimes I feel like I'm in abit of a dream like kind of detached from reality, Has anyone else felt like that I don't know if it's related to depression or the medication, but I feel like I'm the only one and it's hard to explain to anyone else feel like I'm going crazy x

Have you had any counseling? CBT can be incredibly effective.

Branleuse · 30/05/2021 00:24

I think a different antidepressant might work better.
Are you getting enough sleep?

I have very vivid dreams and nightmares due to my antidepressants, but thankfully they've settled down over time. Definitely something to chat to your doctor about though Thanks If you are able to get counselling that could be really helpful in helping you feel better. Sending hugs Thanks
