Really heavy bleeding 6 weeks post section

DS2 born 6 weeks ago tomorrow via c section. Lochia had turned a creamy sort of yellow up until last Sunday. On Monday had some dark brown reddish bleeding but not very heavy at all. But for the last 2 days the bleeding is bright red and so so heavy, I am going through pads every 45 minutes to an hour. Gushing everytime I stand up or walk ot cough.

I am formula feeding so have assumed this is my first period after birth. With DS1 (assisted birth with forceps) my period returned at a similar time but I don't remember it being this heavy at all.

I have tried to get a phone appointment with my GP but nothing available so have to try again tomorrow.

Is this amount of bleeding normal for a first period after a c section? I don't have any pain or cramping, there is no smell as far as I can tell ( do have a bit of a cold though) abdomen is sore and tender to the touch but have had this feeling off and on since the section.

My mum has some tranexamic acid, could I take some to help stop the bleeding?

Please call 111, they can actually send a referral to your gp for a same day appt. Or they'll advise you on what's best. I was always a bit reluctant to call them, thinking they were just an advice line, but I've used them twice for different reasons and swift actions followed, I was impressed. Obviously it'd depend on your ailment, but in your case, it does sound like you'd need to be seen quickly. Best wishes

Filling a pad every hour is when the MW told me to call. Maybe try the delivery suite at your local hospital? I would advise immediately! Hope everything is okay OP. X

Any clots? I had this sudden bleeding and clots 4 weeks pp and turned out to be retained products and a womb infection- needed a few days in hospital to sort outxx worth getting checked

Hi all for some reason I didn't know of any replies until now. Apologies!

I have just had to start another thread about this. I did call my GP who basically said this can be normal after birth. So in the end my mum had some tranexamic acid, took some of that and the gushing stopped. Now I'm on my second period which stopped for 2 days and now started up again so just confused with what's going on.

I had my first period about 5 weeks PP, lochia stopped about 3 weeks PP and I did have some issues with retained products and random gushes of blood.

My periods now are very heavy, they were quite light before having my DS lasting 4 days or so. Now I have to double up on sanitary products which I have to change every 1/2 hours, lots of cramping for a week beforehand, clots. I’m getting an IUD fitted as this is supposed to help! Definitely worth speaking to GP XX
