Bleeding after restarting pill - 6 weeks pp

Hi,
I am hoping someone else has experienced similar! Sorry for TMI!! I was prescribed my usual mini-pill at 6 weeks pp, at this point the lochia has pretty much gone just the odd bit if I went on a long walk. Only within 1 day of restating the pill I have bright red bleeding, it's very stringy and mucus-ey and I has just got heavier and heavier! I have given it 10 days thinking it would change colour and stop but it's still bright red and heavy! I'm starting to feel pretty rough with it 😞😞
Anybody experienced similar when restarting contraception post-birth??

Hi @SK2970

I literally came on to Mumsnet today to ask pretty much the same thing.

DD was born by csection early Jan. Waited until my second period started in mid Mar to start taking the contraception pill again. 22 days later and I am STILL bleeding!
Period started on 17th March and was light with dark-ish coloured blood for a day or two, followed by bright red heavy bleeding which just seems to have gotten heavier and heavier with clots and stringly mucusy bits which I can only describe as looking like red slugs (sorry for TMI). Past couple of days I've had terrible back ache that normally comes with my periods and also some period pain in my tummy. That's eased off today, thankfully. I'm having to use super tampons and maternity pads.

Anyone experienced similar? Is this normal?

@PeachesBright I ended up going to a GP and been referred to gynaecology for ultrasound and examination - but yet to get an appointment.
I started getting the period pains a few days ago which is why I went to GP but they have gone now. Mine is totally the same re slugs, it's not the same as a period that I remember pre baby but more like lochia. I hadn't had a period before starting the mini-pill again and the lochia had only just started slowing down.
Which contraception did you start? I am convinced that is what it is, despite having a horrendous birth!

@SK2970

Thanks for the update. Did your GP have any idea what the cause might be? Like you, I'm convinced the pill is the cause. Please let me know how you get on once you get your appt. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long.

I saw my GP at 6 weeks PP for a post-csection checkup. She prescribed me Rigevidon which I had been taking before TTC. She advised me to wait until my next natural period before I started taking them.

My DH and I had sex on 17th March and I started to bleed. I took this as a period and started taking the pill that day. The first couple of days, the blood was mid/dark red with some bright bits and it wasn't too heavy. However, it got heavier and brighter red and is now still heavy and bright red 23 days later. There are clots, some small, some bigger and stringy etc as described above. The period pain and back pain I had a few days ago (which I usually get with my period) have gone, so I'm really hoping that means the end is in sight and the bleeding will start to ease and stop soon. If I'm still bleeding at the end of the week, I will contact my GP.
A friend advised I start taking post pregnancy vitamins to keep my iron levels up, so I started those yesterday.
