Hi I have had emergency section last Saturday and my midwife came today and asked if wanted to take my dressing off , I said no as I worry incase stitches will come open and she said I can take them off myself , just wondering if anyone else took them off themselves was it easy? And also how roughly did you leave them on longer for?

Hi @kaythorn I had mine changed by the mw for a lighter dressing at 5 days which I then removed in the shower at 10 days. She advised me to take it off at 10 days although I was reluctant to do it sooner. The shower helped with the stickiness and any discomfort and I guess would have helped with the earlier heavier dressing. Taking it off in the shower was advised by friends who had sections rather than advice from mw. Mine was a relatively straight forward procedure and recovery so I guess advice may differ depending on circumstances. Good luck!

I had mine taken off by myself and the help of MW 2 days after, I was suprised how good healing was even at that point :) showering was fine too MW just said don’t use any shower gels to begin with! All the best!

Mine came off at 5 days and staples out then too, it's surprising how much it heals in 5 days!
