Heavy bleeding 5 weeks postpartum

Postpartum bleeding starting getting very light after 3 week so I started taking the mini pill. Then from week 4 my bleeding has become unbearably heavy and my hv has said to just keep an eye on it and that it could be my period. Has anyone experienced this ?

What’s ‘unbearably heavy’ - how often are you having to change a pad because it’s soaked through? (not just staining the top) If it’s more than every hour or so, that’s concerning

Call your GP - I think it’s normal to bleed for 6 weeks or even a bit longer, but it should broadly be getting less and less now. A significant increase in bleeding needs investigating x

If you are soaking through a pad an hour or passing clots bigger than a 50p, I would try and get seen ASAP as thats not normal. I would be a bit concerned as it had been lighter but given that you have recently started the mini pill, that could be the cause. I would probably see if you could get a phone appt with the GP to discuss.

Thankfully it is quite a bit lighter today and much more bearable, changing pad every 3ish hours. Pretty sure I’m just unlucky to have my period so soon whilst breastfeeding.

I'd get it checked in case if retained product. I had heavy bleeding after ds, was gutted as was expecting to be period free die to bf. Thankfully bleeding stopped a few weeks later and I just had my first period 2 1/4 years later!
