Strange rash...

Hi ladies, I gave birth a few weeks ago and had to have an episiotomy and forceps. I was in quite some pain and ended up with two different sets of antibiotics for an infection. Since getting prescribed the second lot, I saw a huge improvement and the pain is getting better! It still looks a bit of a gaping wound down there but the midwife assured me that the stitches heal inside out and it will close up! I can’t understand how it’ll work tbh, has anyone else had that? Also I’ve now noticed a bit of a rash at my groin area, it’s a bit red and has white bits like residue cream if that makes sense? (And apologies if tmi). It also has a bit of an unpleasant smell. Wondering if it could be a yeast or bacterial infection caused by the antibiotics but I’ve never had one before to know for sure? I’ve been having two salt water short baths a day so don’t understand how I could be getting another infection. Or maybe it’s been caused by over washing? I’ve also had a bit of a tender stomach low down, not sure if it’s all connected or that’s normal after birth pain, I was on painkillers before with the antibiotics so wouldn’t have noticed this as much then! Wondered if anyone else has had anything similar

Sounds like a yeast infection. You should get a check up to confirm as you dont want it to get any worse.

Hello OP - I also had an episiotomy in June. Which subsequently broke down, stitches disappearing & being left with a gaping wound. I ended up with a bacterial Infection (Not surprised with the trauma down there!) which was mistaken for thrush at first but diagnosed after a self swab. Defo contact your GP as it will slow your healing down if not treated. Anyway, I’m now 16w pp & I’m fully healed. It will heal, but slowly. I promise! X

Thanks! Will defo give them a phone tomorrow, I’m so para I miss something and it gets worse! Got ‘Spritz for bits’ today to see if that helps, read good things about it.

@Johnson10 what a nightmare! Did you have to get it re-stitched at all? Glad to hear it gets better! X

@Ali46 - no re-sitch, just healed by secondary intention. It did take a while. Probs 8w/9w pp before the pain started to go. More like 12w pp before it was fully healed. Try & get some air down there - that helps. Spritz for bits is good. I kept spraying some on a pad for cooling the area. I do like 7/8 mile walks now so all is well x
