Hi everyone, my little girl was born 4 days ago and was tongue tied which we had fixed today and I was hoping to finally be able to feed her but now my breasts are really engorged so I'm not getting much milk out at all and it's so painful and they are so tight and huge it's stopping her latching. How do I sort it please? I'm panicking she'll get too attached to a bottle, or that I won't have the milk supply to feed her. We have bought an electric pump which is getting a little bit out but it's minimal. Thank you

Firstly congratulations!! For the enforcement, try giving them a nice massage, or using the shower head on fairly warm, whilst massaging. It's pretty instant relief. Also try some hand expressing (google to do it properly for immediate relief, leaving a little milk left on the nipple and bring baby to it. Put it under baby's nose, so she can smell its milk and she may latch harder. Apologies if you know all this already but it really helped me. La Leche league are brilliant for bf help. Good luck OP Thanks

*engorgement not enforcement!

Get in a hot shower and massage your breasts, expressing as much milk with your hands as possible. As soon as you get out of the shower, feed your baby.

At four days postpartum, you shouldn't be using an electric pump yet. You need to get beyond the engorgement and establish your milk supply.
