Periods have stopped again

I had my second baby last July. Periods came back a couple of months later and were regular until January. Since then I haven't had one at all, although the following things have happened:

  • after the period in Jan I got an infected Bartholins Cyst, was treated with antibiotics and hasn't bothered me since.
  • ovulation type discharge now and again
  • the odd spotting when I wipe but again, no pattern to it.
  • occasional period pain which makes me think I'm about to come on but it doesn't happen.
  • today I have a dull ache in right ovary which isn't really going away

I know periods can be irregular after birth, with my first the opposite happened and I basically had non stop light bleeding for 5 months and eventually got the coil to control it.

Has anyone else experienced periods going back to normal after birth and then stopping again?

Are you still breastfeeding, by any chance? Because that can stop or make periods very erratic for a long time in some women. It took almost two years after my first and about 4.5 years with my second for my periods to properly resume - I was awaiting investigations second time round as it had been so long after I'd stopped bf (I'd been to the GP before but they blamed me still bf each time until I finally said its been a year since I stopped bf!). Then they suddenly resumed as if nothing ever happened and have been regular for years ever since!

Just trying to reassure you that it's fairly common, but also don't just read my experience and ignore your own worries! Speak to your GP if it is concerning you.

Thanks so much for replying, no not breastfeeding anymore. To be honest I'm not missing periods in the slightest 🤣 but would like to make sure everything is normal, especially after the cyst which was horrible.

Will give it a bit longer and then might book an appointment.
