PND

I have PND. I have perinatal support, a family who help, a husband who supports. I’m doing everything I should, baby groups, walks, meds, but I still don’t feel ‘happy’

When will I feel better? It’s so hard being so up and down everyday.

I feel low and lonely!

Firstly let me say that I feel EXACTLY the same and have the exact same support etc.. word for word! I have been on antidepressants for 9 weeks now and some days I actually feel glimmers of happiness. Are you doing anything for you? I have a hobby (which is geeky) and it's jigsaws and I've started doing them in between other stuff and a sense of myself feels to be coming back so things WILL get better.

Thanks for replying! Sorry your going through the same thing. It really is the most horrible thing!

I haven’t been on ADs for long, just 2 weeks so I’m hoping that they haven’t kicked in yet. I do manage to do some things for me & I have been going out big long walks to try clear my mind which do help but I just feel kinda numb going through the motions of the day.

It’s just so hard when all you want to do is feel yourself again and no one quite understands how you feel and you know you should be happy but your not.

I know I should just take each day as it comes and hopefully I will start to see myself again. Just so tough when I take a couple of steps forward and then a few back.

That’s good u have something to do which u enjoy :) Im going to have a think about what makes me happy (rather than what I think will help) I’m glad you are seeing some happiness, hopefully that continues for you!

I do like a good jigsaw! :)

Again I can see myself in everything you write. How old is your little one? It's only been on the last couple of weeks I'm getting better. What ad are you on? I was on sertreline which wasn't for me and now on mitizipine. (Not sure how to spell each) I find the new ones much better. The side effects of going onto ads are horrendous!!

Have a good think. I have an adult colouring book which I find helpful. I also think I find jigsaws and colouring good because I'm not on my phone and I really do think as much as technology is brilliant it can make us feel
Even more isolated than we are.
I too did the baths, long walks, groups etc but they didn't really do much for me at first. I do love a good bath now though. I also saw staying in watching Netflix to be a bad thing but I've just accepted it and binge watched loads of things. X

@bluemarie87 He’s 5 months. I’m on sertraline just now, but early days so I will see how I get on. I tried all the talking therapy first but it just wasn’t helping enough so I decided to try the tablets.

Sorry your going through the same thing. It really is horrible.

Yea I think I am thinking this will help so u do it rather than just do what I enjoy doing and like you says that may be just sitting in and chilling.

Hoping that with time it gets better but just want it to happen sooner rather than later as it just gets me down how long I may feel like this.

I started ADs about a week ago for PND. The doctor said it takes 4-6 weeks for them to take effect.

Dee123456 · 12/03/2020 17:01

@amazedmummy Yea I have been told the same. Fingers crossed!

Sorry to hear your going through the same thing.

Although I don’t know anyone who has it, I do think it’s quite common, or that’s what I have been told

I think you're right @Dee123456 I know one other mum going through it just now but people don't talk about mental health issues so it's not common knowledge. I tried to do without meds but I'm hoping they'll be the turning point. Things got pretty bad for me before I admitted I needed more help.
