Episiotomy Stitches not healed

Hi - I'm a first time mum and had an assisted delivery - Neville Barnes forceps after failed ventouse. I don't know what degree of cut I had, but my initial stitches left a gap which caused bleeding and I needed additional stitches and a blood transfusion. I'm now 14wks pp, and my stitches still haven't fully healed. I've had 4 courses of antibiotics and was signed off by maternity in November saying the edges should heal in a few days. My GP's referred me back to obstetrics but my appointments not till 5th Feb. I'm seeing my GP on Monday again - luckily so far I haven't had a scary infection, just a 'normal one'.

Anyone else had similar? It doesn't hurt too badly and I'm driving ok but I do get twinges and I'm conscious of it so I haven't taken lo swimming etc yet. Obviously not been brave enough to have sex yet! It seems odd to have an open wound nearly 4 months later, pretty gutted!

Hi Laureatus, I also had an awful time of episiotomy healing, stitches came out, infection and antibiotics and at about 12 weeks pp I went back to the GP as it was still very uncomfortable and raw. Turned out there was excess scar granulation tissue. I got referred and had this removed at about 4.5 months PP (seemed to be a very simple procedure, totally fine) and it has totally healed up perfectly now a month later. You are doing the right thing to keep seeing GP and to have a referral and hopefully it will all settle down for you soon. I honestly felt like mine would never heal and it was really stressful tbh but you will get there I’m sure!

I think they just make up the healing time. I'm 4.5 months on and just about healed now, so feel your pain!

Keep on your gp, they sound more helpful than mine who initially refused antibiotics for an infection and told me to talk salty baths Hmm
