Postnatal bleeding (sorry a bit grim!)

Wondered if anyone had any experience of this before I go wasting GPs time. 5 and a half weeks post birth now and I've just started bleeding more heavily, bright red with some clots. TBH my bleeding has been up and down since birth, getting lighter and brown then going back to being bright red again but this is definitely heavier now. Am I having a period? I'm EBF including through the night at least every 2 hours, my period didn't come back with my first until 8 months when I started dropping feeds. My LO has been poorly and in and out of hospital since birth so I've been under a lot of stress and also not really keeping an eye on things so only just noticing that I should of stopped bleeding by now not bleeding more heavily. I'm due my 6 week check next week, can I wait to speak to the dr until then or would it be wise to go in this week? TIA

I bled until 7 weeks but did get lighter even though was bright red. At 6 week check doc wanted to send me for a scan to check for retained products as I had 'ragged membranes' after birth. I would go to GP. Mine did stop!
