broken down perinial wound

1 week since having a forcep delivery and I also had to be cut.

(The below maybe TMI for some users)

Stitches have all come apart and i made the mistake of looking with a mirror. It's horrific. Midwife has taken a look and I've been put on antibiotics as it's now infected to help heal it but that's it as apparently the wound will heal on it's own and they have no intention of restitching. There's literally a hole there.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so how long was the healing process? And how did everything look down there afterward?

I'm having such a painful recovery it's really getting me down I need some reassurance from someone who's been through similar and knows what I'm talking about.

Yes, it happened to me. I also made the mistake of looking and it was awful. (a black hole!) I saw a consultant who said it would heal on its own and there wouldn’t be anything to gain from fiddling with it. She said she’d seen some real shockers in her time and mine was a very mild case. It sounds exactly like yours.

All I can say is, take the antibiotics, use ice packs to help with the swelling and take pain killers. I know it hurts to sit and I remember not wanting to drive for about 8 weeks because it hurt to use the clutch!

It did heal well but I had a sort of ridge of scaring. Everything has rearranged since I had DS2 so it’s no longer a bother.

@WanderingAimlessly Oh thank god that's good to hear! Roughly how long did the healing take? I just want it to close ASAP. Makes me super uneasy Shock

It was almost 9 years ago so my memory is hazy on exact times, but I remember going to a NCT meet at 6 weeks and it was much better by then. Keep it clean, but be gentle with it and use ice in a towel if you’re sore.

It’ll probably be a couple of weeks before it starts to look less alarming. But don’t obsessively check! There’s nothing to be gained. Have another look when you’ve finished the antibiotics in case you need to go to the GP. Don’t forget your pelvic floor exercises but be gentle!

It sucks and it hurts and it’s the last thing you need right now, but I’m sure it’ll be fine if you look after yourself.

@Roxyxo I had a beautiful baby girl 7 weeks ago after a prolonged 36 hr labour and 3 epidurals by forceps. After having an episiotomy, i was told that i would heal up in 6 weeks. Unfortunately I had an infection 1 week after so I was on antibiotics for a week but it seemed like it was getting worse because I had a lot of pain and discomfort and when i went back for a a check up inwas told that my stitches have come out but they’re not able to do anything until the wound heals so i was put on another set of antibiotics which were the exact same as the first ones. 7 weeks later I have another infection and I’m on another set of antibiotics but this time for 10 days. The doctors keep telling me they don’t restitch and that the wound will heal by itself.. I feel like I’ve been fobbed off by every doctor and midwife which has becomes so stressful that it’s affected my breast milk production that I’m no longer able to breastfeed properly, I feel so sad and upset and I never thought having a child would make me feel like that. How do you feel now? I would love to know how you've recovered?

I had to be cut and had a forceps delivery. Little one is nearly 3, I had problems with it healing and a lot of pain with it. But kept being told it would heal eventually. I ended up having a Fenton's procedure done at the start of this year as it had got worse. It's healed very well and quickly since having the procedure done but it's taken all that time to get to this point. I hope you're all healed by now Smile
