Period 3 weeks after birth - possible??

I gave birth on 13 Feb and my bleeding calmed down fairly normally I think from bleeding to pinky discharge to browny / orange coloured then to a pretty much normal discharge (sorry if TMI!) By a couple of days ago it had got to the stage where it was a normal sort of discharge and I haven’t been felt like I would need a panty liner.

Just now I went to the loo and there was a trace of pink / red when wiping.

Oddly, I have felt the past few days like I have PMT! I say “oddly” as it seemed early for that but now I’m wondering whether I’ve already got my first period. Would have meant ovulating about ten days after birth though.

Should add my baby was stillborn (at 40 weeks). I only mention that as I wonder whether my body knows and is preparing for another baby. I’m not breastfeeding or anything currently obviously.

The post birth bleeding had just tapered off so seems odd I would bleed again if not menstrual.

Or should I be seeing GP? Not under midwife any more although she has been really good about what’s happened and might not mind if I were to call her.

I’m afraid I don’t have an answer for you but I’d have thought midwife would be more knowledgeable than GP.

Hope it all settles soon. Sorry for your loss.

I’m very sorry to hear such sad news about your precious baby. It is possible it’s a period. I got main exactly 4 weeks after my daughter was stillborn.

A chat with your doctor/midwife would be best. Sorry for your lossFlowers

Thank you all for your replies

Sorry for your loss @imip

I did some more googling after possible and it seems some women have been advised bleeding starting again after about three weeks could just be post partum bleeding coming back as a sign of doing too much

I don’t plan to have another baby immediately but I would like to try at some point and I prefer the idea it is a period and my body is getting back to normal 🙄

Also explains my hormones (which DH first “noticed”) this week although I realise hormones can be all over post birth

I did wonder whether mine was post partum bleeding. I didn’t get the tablets to stop BF and I had lots of milk for a very long time. On the off chance, I did have sex (dd was our first child after infertility) and I did fall pregnant, but it took a long while to be convinced.

@imip I did have the tablets to stop my milk but I was thinking either way my body would know it’s not breastfeeding

I’ll see how it goes tonight / tomorrow as I should be able to tell if it’s a period although the first one might not be “normal” I suppose 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m not quite ready to dtd yet anyway though 😬

I am sorry for your loss. I have been through similar with DS1z

I had my period exactly 33 days after having DS2 and I was exclusively breastfeeding.

Be kind to yourself Flowers

Thank you @RogueV I’m sorry you’ve had to go through something like this too. It is not easy.

33 days sounds quite soon considering you were EBF. I suppose everyone is different.

Yes, I actually think sex after stillbirth is not talked about enough. We do talk about babyloss, but not all aspects. It seems to be very difficult issue for everyone in a similar situation. Sorry it’s so difficult.

AliceRR · 09/03/2019 15:53

@imip I think a lot of it isn’t talked about but when you share your own story so many people then tell you about their own experiences

Well anyway I don’t think it was my period because I haven’t had anything since so I think it was probably down the fact that I had done a lot the day before...
