Bleeding post c section

Hi all,

I am going doctors but am wondering if anyone has experienced the same.

I had a EMCS 12 weeks ago after no progress during induction. I have been back on birth control since my 6 week check so I should not be bleeding except for pill breaks or the odd bit of spotting.

However, I am bleeding every day and enough to need sanitary towels. It smells vile and is dark black so I presume old blood. The only time I have not bled since having my baby, is bizarrely when I am on the pill break - the time I should be bleeding.

Has anyone else experienced this? I feel constantly dirty down below as a result

No, you should not be still having heavy bleeding 12 weeks post c section. I would suggest your GP needs to make you an urgent gynea appointment.

That doesn't sound right at all. Please see a dr.

I stopped bleeding honestly less then 10 days after a c section

I bled for just over nine weeks after my c section. Definitely get it checked out as a matter of urgency, but try not to panic in the meantime.

@CoastalLife - please ignore if it’s too personal/private but I can ask what was the reason behind your bleeding?

I’m not much of a worrier but I’d rather be armed with knowledge of potential outcomes

Mine just turned out to be normal, no underlying cause or issue. This was almost 3 years ago now so presumably if there was something going on then it would have come to light by now. It wasn't a heavy flow by any means, but was very dark as you describe and I did need pads. 12 weeks is a long time to be bleeding so you definitely need to be looked at ASAP, but bleeding can go on longer in some people and not be a sign of anything sinister so it really is best not to worry.

I had bleeding for ages after my vaginal delivery and it ended up being a uterine infection. A course of antibiotics cleared it up v quickly! Hope the Dr can give you some answers.
