Period postpartum and coil

I gave birth 11 weeks ago. At 6 weeks postpartum I had my first period (I’m bottlefeeding) it was extremely heavy and very painful. Nearly 3 weeks ago I had the copper coil fitted and several days after that I had another period. This was also extremely heavy (I bled through my pyjamas for several nights and was wearing 2 maternity pads that I was changing hourly or so) but the cramps weren’t actually that bad. It lasted about a week, maybe a day longer. I’ve been period free for a few days- and have just started bleeding again. I was anemic throughout my pregnancy, had 2 blood transfusions after my labour and was on iron tablets which I’ve since finished. I think I should go to the dr to get my iron levels checked because of the amount of blood I’ve lost recently. I was wondering if anyone else had a similar situation? I feel like I’ve barely had a break between periods and wasn’t sure if it was linked to the coil or is just a normal part of post- childbirth and my cycle trying to get back to a regular thing??

I’m really not sure on that one either, I think too that you are best going back to your GP.

If you had blood transfusions, is there a reason that they haven’t fitted the Mirena coil instead of the copper?

The reason I chose copper coil was because I wanted to go down the non hormonal route. If this doesn’t work out that’s probably my next option!

I just thought that with the Mirena stopping or vastly reducing periods, they would have suggested you have that fitted first.

Are you going back to the GP?

Yes I think I’ll book an appointment tomorrow when they’re open. I would be very surprised if I wasn’t anemic!

I was wondering the same. I gave birth 13 weeks ago and ive had 3 periods in 3 weeks. So painful too its like having a contraction!!

Did you go to the GP @hannahdenise91?
