I gave birth 1 week and 2 days ago. I had heavy bleed and a few large blood clots while in hospital but MW were not concerned.

Last night I passed a huge bloody clot, balled up would probably be like a golf ball maybe slightly bigger, I had no pain! Since then my bleeding has slowed right down, and it's a light pinkish colour.

I've felt slightly dizzy tonight but bought it could be dehydration as I haven't been drinking much water and I feel fine now. Had a slight shiver but the house was cold earlier.

I've just checked my temperature and is 38.1 which says it could be an infection as it's high!! I'm really panicking now 😩😩 what should I do?

How about calling the labour ward for some immediate advice? At least you’d be able to speak to a midwife.

chocolateorangeowls · 28/11/2017 23:33

Labour ward may be a good bet, or 111.

Rainbowandraindrops67 · 28/11/2017 23:33

Phone 111

You do need to see a dr for antibiotics i would guess

Rainbowandraindrops67 · 28/11/2017 23:35

Ps hope your baby is well and not showing a temp or other signs of infection though (newborns don’t often get temperatures)? It would be unlikely but just thought I’d ask the question!

OuchLegoHurts · 28/11/2017 23:46

Definitely get medical advice!

guest477337 · 28/11/2017 23:47

Would I be ok ringing he Dr's first thing in the morning? Or do you think I should sort it now? I really feel fine at the moment.

Actually I just read up on it there and unless the clots and blood was smelly or you are having flu- like symptoms you should be fine, definitely ok until morning. Maybe ring hospital and just describe the clots in the morning.

OuchLegoHurts · 28/11/2017 23:51

But seriously, if you stay dizzy and have a temperature then go to the hospital, no matter what time!

Rainbowandraindrops67 · 29/11/2017 00:04

Ring 111 now - they’ll let you know how urgently you need to be seen

Just be careful of your baby as if you have an Infection your baby might too (although it’s unlikely)

guest477337 · 29/11/2017 00:09

The bleeding has basically stopped and I've check my temperature and it's 37.4 so hoping I can hold off till morning. Baby seems fine, I do have HV round tomorrow so will also mention this to her

This happened to me too about 8 days after giving birth. Huge clot about the size of a golf ball and a gush of blood, then it slowed down. Gave me a right shock.

I hadnt been discharged from the community midwives yet so phoned them and they gave me a swab to do. Actually after this the bleeding right down for good and i started feeling better, think it was just whatever was left inside me came away all at once. My swab came back negative for infection.

Long story short. Definitely phone midwives or 111 to get it checked, but it might turn out to be a good thing.

I had an infection and passed clots, had a fever of 38 and flu like symptoms. I went to the out of hours GP and a week of broad spectrum antibiotics cleared it up. I felt a lot better after a few days so don't delay getting treatment.
