Bleeding gums & breast feeding

Does anyone have any experience of their gums bleeding whilst breastfeeding?

When I was pregnant my teeth would bleed terribly whenever I brushed them. Saw the dentist who told me my teeth and gums were fine it was more that the bleeding was likely to be hormonal and sent me on my way. I've always had good dentist hygiene and never had any problems other than the odd filing.

I've been breast feeding for four months now and my gums don't bleed nowhere near as much as before. However, I've just seen the dentist (different one) who told me my gums are very inflamed as they are bleeding. This particular dentist was very over zealous with the hook thing they use and I literally felt as though she was just piercing my gums! She's now talking about long term damage to my gums, x rays and different treatments. When I told her I was breast feeding she was quite dismissive to be honest. I was under the impression it was a hormonal thing?

Have any of you had any experience of this? Does the bleeding stop after you've finished breast feeding?
