Hi everyone. Just looking for some advice please. My DD is 5 weeks old. When she was first born it was discovered that she had quite a tight tongue tie. Quite early on, she started crying every time she was awake and was particularly bad on an evening, having crying/screaming episodes from around 9pm until midnight each night. I was hoping the tongue tie snip would help as I was putting it down to feeding issues and excessive wind. The lady doing the tongue tie snipped it twice and then said she didn't feel confident to do it as far back as it needed as we would have to bring her back the following week to see the specialist. I was really upset about this as I wished she had just let the specialist do it in the first place rather than her having to go through it again. So needless to say, the problems didn't improve. She was still crying every time she was awake and having nightly meltdowns in which nothing really would settle her. She was arching her back a lot and screaming as if in pain. The tongue was snipped again, this time by the specialist. A few days after this, she was being sick after every feed - like almost the whole feed - which was not like her. I rang the midwife who asked me to get her checked. The doctor assessed her and said he thought she might have reflux and prescribed omeprazole (losec) which I had to dissolve then give through a syringe. The sickness settled and then she had an appointment with an osteopath linked to the tongue tie. She diagnosed an umbilical hernia and also said that the tongue had reattached. She put some kiniso tape on her tummy and referred us back to the tongue tie clinic. We had a few settled nights where the baby was calmer and asleep by 10:30, waking for regular feeds. Dirty nappies started to be an issue where she wasn't having one for a good few days after going several times a day. The tablets ran out and the doctor switched to the omoerazole in liquid form. It tastes absolutely foul and DD screams when given it. I've been reading about this drug, and it's quite a significant drug that appears to be the final solution. I'm worried about giving her such a strong drug, especially if that's not what she actually needs. I decided to reduce the dosage, leading to withdrawing it to see if it made a difference. I haven't really been able to do so yet as she's been vomiting it back up anyway. She is being sick after pretty much each feed but only a small white mucusy amount. She didn't settle until almost 1am this morning. She was pulling off the breast and arching her back again. She's also salivating quite excessively. She is pumping a lot and not having regular dirty nappies. The past two days have been spent crying excessively and being difficult to settle. Just feel in a total fog. I don't know if it's tongue tie and wind related and if the procedure and osteopath will help or if it's reflux and I should be giving her this horrible stuff. Just feel useless like she's in pain and unhappy and unsettled and I just don't know what to do.
Thank you for reading. Sorry it's so long.
