need ds to take a dummy

Ds is 11 weeks (well, 12 weeks tomorrow and has started ducking his thumb... Now whilst thumb ducking I cute(ish) I also understand the damage it can do and the pure and simple fact of it is that you can take a dummy away you cant take a dummy away. He is ebf and he does occasionally use me as a comforter. I've tried using a dummy but he just immediately pushes it out. Is there anything that I can do??? Me and dh are quite up on it in that we'll take his thumb out and distract him with something else (is this even the right thing to do). Please someone tell me how to stop him x

Some babies just don't take to dummies I'm afraid (Dd was one of them!). Have you tried different shaped ones e.g. Cherry or orthodontic?

You may need to try a few dummies. Ds1 took to cherry ones, ds2 (7wks) spits them out an amusing disgusted face!

Not sure how you would stop, i guess its just perseverance.

And yup I've tried different shaped ones... If not a dummy id like him try a blankie... How do you get a child to do that?? DD6 had a dummy from newborn and got bored of it a 5 months so we got rid then... She was also ebf so when we got rid of the dummy she just comforted with me... X I. Dont. Know. What. To. Do.

My ds wouldn't take a dummy at first and just wanted to nurse constantly. He eventually accepted a tommee tippee latex teat dummy. It took about a week of popping it in when I took home off the breast. Have you tried different dummies and different shapes?

Dd2 had a comforter. It was a cuski, when she was very little I held it when she was feeding then put it next to her when she went down. She also had a dummy, but would only take a cherry one, dd1 would only take one type of a particular brand.

My 15 yo DS has sucked his thumb since he was born, probably did so in the womb like many babies do. He has perfectly straight teeth and talks beautifully - exactly the same as my 18 yo DS who didn't take either, and my 16 and 12 yo DS's who had dummies! I was also a thumb sucker until my late teens and also have perfectly straight teeth. I've never bought the scare stories about thumb sucking.

DS1 had a blankie. It started off life as one of my satin nightdresses, but I gave it to him to try and help him sleep one night because I thought he'd like it because it smelled of me. He loved it and so I cut it up into smaller pieces and never looked back.

He does have an owl blanket that he loves - its fleecey though... I thought they had to be muslin style x

This is amusing as I am trying to encourage my dc3 to suck his thumb.

I don't do replacing dummies all night long.
