Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Absolutely! I mean, how could we possibly be the only planet with life on it? and I do mean intelligent life, not just plant life.

I'd put money on us walking around/living/loving with 'visitors' and not having a clue about it!

jabberwocky · 10/01/2011 18:03

I like that idea!

Elibean · 11/01/2011 16:40

Confused as glancing v quickly (dd2 on sofa with temp etc, am on sanity break) but if it helps the conversation along - I am still convinced I saw a UFO back in my Uni days! Description on request Smile

And no, I hadn't been drinking (I was driving, just before Xmas, in Oxfordshire). I was so convinced I reported it to the Police Blush

solo · 11/01/2011 22:48

Oooh! description Eli :) The one I saw was in 1978, it was an elongated trianglular shape, with 'window' type things underneath. It was very low and going very slowly. I was 14 and remember thinking it was Concord (you know; that super sonic, extremely fast plane Hmm). What I didn't know until a few years ago, was that my brother also saw it and that there had been many sightings of the same type of thing in the Kent area around that time.

The other one I think I saw was too hard to describe, but I'm certain I saw it.

Indith · 12/01/2011 15:22

[sceptic emotion]

So the last of the Dec '06 children is 4. MY goodness me they are all growing up so much.

More presents, more mess! Havign thought we had got off lightly at Christmas by managing to have all presents that fitted in with stuff we already had (so the tea set went into the play food box, the lego went in with the other lego and so on), we now have toys that don't fit in. Argh! The beginning of the end. I'm going to move to a remote island where my children will be happy with a bit of string, a stick and a pet rock.

Party on Sunday.

jabberwocky · 13/01/2011 02:50

lol, Indith. It will be literally minutes before you are swamped with Ipod Touch and the like...

jabberwocky · 13/01/2011 02:50

ahem...

iPod...

Indith · 13/01/2011 07:30

Someone is going to buy ds and ipod touch? Can I steal it? I was thinking it would be more plastic rubbish until he is 13 and starts going "but muuuuuuuuuuuuum everyone at school has an imagicincrdedibalthoughtmachine I neeeeeeeeeed one". At least then I can tell him to sod off and get a paper round Grin

Indith · 16/01/2011 11:45

:)

jabberwocky · 16/01/2011 16:50

Went to a Happy New Year/Belated Christmas party with my little group of friends. We've been having these small (6 of us only) gatherings a few times a year for 10 years now! This year we brought in a woman to do tarot card readings. It was so much fun and totally kid-free. Just lots of food, a little bit of wine and even Dirty Santa gifts. I got a lovely Raku pot :)

accessorizequeen · 16/01/2011 20:37

No idea what raku pot is but sounds fun jabber. I had fab meal pre Xmas with group of mum friends from school. Far too much to drink and lots of giggles. Not enough of that. We r trying to recover from Xmas, dp has done back in so I need to do more and fix the house to go on the Market in 6 weeks eek. So not around much

jabberwocky · 16/01/2011 21:43

Poor dp :( Is he using lots of cold packs? That;s what they've always recommended for me.

I didn't know you were going to put the house up. Do you have a particular new one in mind or just lots-more-room in general?

My friend made the pot herself.

accessorizequeen · 16/01/2011 21:52

How lovely to receive a home made piece if pottery. I am keen to do something creative, just feel the urge but no ideas! Dp is using hot pack which seems to help and seeing osteo weekly. Shall suggest cold packs! My back now killing as he can't bend or pick twins up.

jabberwocky · 17/01/2011 01:17

Hot packs feel good but cold packs will reduce inflammation that can contribute to muscle spasm. Only 20 minutes at a time max and then at least 20 minutes off. I have creative urges at times but I imagine the boys will be in college before I have time for anything like that.

Elibean · 17/01/2011 09:47

Morning Smile

Creative urges...I was meant to re-shape the lawn today, but nature is doing it for me Hmm

'Making' with the dds (will satisfy minor urges), writing (had tutorial this weekend, re-write of entire scene, urge gone), re-arranging things on new shelves...not sure that counts!

Solo (sorry, Indith Grin) as far as I can remember, it was very large, had very very bright white lights (2??) with parallel beams of light as opposed to diffusing off into the night. It appeared very fast, then hovered very slowly, then went off in a different direction very fast. I have no idea what it was - army invention, optical illusion, UFO - but I've never seen anything like it before or since. My friend was in the car and saw it too, we were both baffled and slightly freaked out - it was a quiet, dark lane in the hills outside Oxford in middle of winter. I think it was 1979.

The police, to my surprise, were quite receptive, said they'd had a large number of sightings that month and gave me a number to phone and report it to Shock I'd love an explanation!

Back on earth, dd2 is finally back at nursery after a week off with flu (vaccinated, so not too bad, though high temps), and dd1 brought nits home this weekend for first time. I found ONE (dead, post-treatment) on me, very large - dh thinks it was a pregnant one, ugh. Not as grossed out as I thought I would be, hey ho, another rite of passage.

AQ, hope dh's back is better - I hate it when dh is ill/incapacitated, initially for him and then because it means twice the work for me! BTW, I think four kids is pretty creative stuff Grin

castlesintheair · 17/01/2011 10:26

Eli, I had no idea what you were talking about with your bright lights and parallel beams and had to scroll back there Grin

How's the writing going? I am constantly googling to find ideas for my return to work. Amongst my old favourites, I am considering copywriting or buying a franchise. There are some arty ones which might satisfy my creative urges (of which I have many) but sadly, they come with having to 'entertain' other peoples kids which would be a major pita Grin

Where are you moving to AQ? I am desperate to move but everything costs a FORTUNE round here.

My friend just got a dx of Rett syndrome today for her DD. It's so sad. I'm off to the SN boards.

Indith · 17/01/2011 15:00

Sounds good Jabber. A night out with friends makes so much difference to the state of mind!

AQ hope the back gets better soon and that yours doesn't go with all the extra lifting! You've decided on a move then? Is there bigger stuff in the area or are you going to have to move elsewhere?

Castles why is it that so many otherwise ideal jobs involve other children?

Was scouring the job websites at the weekend. Sod all around. Urgh. Want to get out and do something but pointless slaving away for minimal return in something I don't want to do especially since fingers crossed I'll get to jack it in and go back to university in a few years. can't wait until September to be honest and ds can go to school, this stage is sooooo hard, they are both being so high needs. How any of you with older ones are anywhere near sane I have no idea.

Ds in nursery (woohoo!), dd has had a lovely morning but since lunch has been the grumpiest child in the world. Am going ot try to take her to the park although everything else today has been met by "no" and throwing things Hmm

solo · 18/01/2011 01:15

Oooh! Eli, that's fab Grin

I'd love to find something else to do instead of having to return to my old job next year. I'm quite creative, but not very disciplined...just feel a bit despondent really as I just can't afford the childcare so will have to hope that Ds rises to the challenge of taking Dd to breakfast club and picking her up from after school club...it just seems so daunting; he'll only be 13, she'll be 5 and they are at each others throats a lot, even though they really do love one another...what to do.

jabberwocky · 18/01/2011 02:30

solo, this could be the beginning of new bonding in their relationship. And your ds may find pride in the added responsibility!

eli, my parents saw a UFO in the early 60's. It was one of those that hovered over a power line and grew brighter and brighter then zipped away faster than any known aircraft.

Working on the kindle version of dh's book atm. Am learning way more than I ever wanted to know about formatting!

It is rather funny that my job has a very large child component in it! Never would have imagined that pre-dcs.

Olihan · 18/01/2011 14:17

Hello, just bookmarking for later....!

Indith · 20/01/2011 13:17

Come back Oli!

I am Angry and I know I need to not be but I can't help seething away. Ds is in one of those phases of doing things just to see what happens and it is driving me mad! He has just snapped dd's lovely fairy wand she got for her birthday clean in half just because he wanted to see what happened when you keep bending it Angry. I know he doesn't mean to be naughty but argh!!!!!!!!!

solo · 20/01/2011 15:02

Oooh! Indith, how old is he? my Ds is 12 and can be a bit mean like that sometimes. Breathe dear, just breathe!

Indith · 20/01/2011 15:05

4 Solo, not being mean just experimenting with no idea of the consequences.

solo · 20/01/2011 15:31

Ahhh! is Dd older or younger?

I sometimes wonder if Ds has got past that stage as I'm always saying to him 'thinkof the consequences before you do something.'
He's a grammar school boy and I swear he has no common sense and isn't young enough to be experimenting in the way your own Ds is.
I hope he stops breaking things though; most upsetting! :)

Indith · 20/01/2011 16:37

Dd is 2 and NOT IMPRESSED! At least you can tell a 12 year old to pay for it out of his own pocket money! Boys. Humph. Hope yours grows out of it at some point soon, ds had better not still be doing things like this at that age (though I expect he will).

Of course I can't really say too much. I remember cutting a hole in my brand new blind the day my parents put it up at a similar age jsut to see what cutting the thick, stiff material felt like. Then there was the realisation that if you used a blunt pencil on the wooden chest it made an indentation that led to my drawing a huge boat the whole length of the lid (it was the width of a double bed). My parents were not amused. I remember how good it felt then hiding in fear because I knew I shouldn't have done it.
