Apologies for rubbish title, couldn't think of anything - mind is totally riddled by hormones...!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Veggiemummy · 05/06/2010 12:08

I always thought Pimms was low alcohol until I was rolling after one pint of it (mixed of course). DH is taking DS1 to swimming this afternoon, then after we are getting the paddling pool out and mixing some Pimms.

I know what you mean about your DH. I don't mean to sound gloaty but DH is brilliant with the boys and can't get enough of them, and he works from home. But I think part of it is his relationship with his dad was quite emotionally distant. Also spending time together doesn't have to be out somewhere, we are definitely enjoying the fun & ease of just being at home, esp in this weather. There are no stresses everyone is relaxed and we can just be together. The boys know if they are cheeky DH will tell them off but generally the three of them get on really well. I think some dads are waiting for their kids to be older to do stuff with them, but they are missing out on so much by doing that.

I have to say though Rubs your DH has been very insightful with the whole DB affair, he clearly knows you very well.

Veggiemummy · 05/06/2010 12:22

JB our life seems to revolve around when the boys need another haircut, it's out of control. Their finger nails grow really fast too, I seem to need to trim them every few days, is that normal?

Avocadoes · 05/06/2010 12:38

Just running in to say that the eagle has landed . I have never been so pleased to have to cancel a day by the pool because I'm on the blob.

Phew, phew, phew, PHEW.

Veggiemummy · 05/06/2010 13:57

Hooray Avo, I'm relieved for you.

DS2 is in a right grump this afternoon I think trying to stretch out his nap time til after lunch is not working he had a short 50 min nap (for him) has woken up grumpy and is now falling asleep on my lap. I guess it could also be the heat. He was writhing around before as if in pain and went mental when I put the covers over him. DS1 & DH will be home soon so think I will get that ikea container specialized paddling pool out and cool him down. Aahhh that Pimms is gonna taste good.

traceface · 05/06/2010 14:03

hello!
Avo am sighing with relief for you. So glad things have turned out fine
veggie haope you've recovered from the finger trauma - these things happen and you just have to be kind to yourself and then leave it behind you.
WG that sounds like a positive start at the couselling. Hope it continues well. And how nice that Madam is being so adorable at the moment - long may it continue!
spot I went in to labour in the night and we had a friend on stand by who had said ring literally any time, so we rang them at 2am and dh took Lucy to them while I scoffed toast at home (then promptly vomited it back!) then he came back for me then straight to the hospital. My friend then kept L all day and brought her to see dh and I and P in the hospital later that day. She was a complete star, but I think most people will pull out all the stops to help out at such exciting times
Well we are well and truly inpoxicated here. Spots appearing in their millions (well, almost!). Poor P She's not too miserable but has a high temp and seems quite tired. She has been standing at the bottom of the stairs with her fave dolly, pointing to her room, so I figured she wanted to go back to bed - and she did! Just lay down and was out like a light! She's been having 2 or 3 naps a day instead of one, but then was awake from 9 till 1 last night Some of the spots looks so huge and angry, and she seems to have a lot more on the way - even in her nappy area and on her hands and feet, as well as tummy, back, neck, face, head...poor thing. Oh well I guess at least it'll be out of the way. Have got MIL arranged to come Monday, my friend on Tuesday, and then I'll have to take it from there re childcare. L hasn't had it so I guess she might catch it too now. doh!
Well L went off to her princess party in the palace fine - they all looked so cute, dressed as princesses with rucksacks on, sailing down the river .
And whilst I was child free (P at home with dh) I accidently went home via the charity shops and bagged myself a goegeous skirt for £2!
Where's dora? Hope you're ok if you're lurking.

traceface · 05/06/2010 14:23

veggie I've put a pic on my profile of our plastic boxes very expensive paddling pool

Veggiemummy · 05/06/2010 15:57

I love your pools Trace.

I'm starting to think the fact that I don't measure the pimms when I add it to the jug might have something to do with how pissy it makes me feel. Hehe reminds me one weekday afternoon when DS1 was about a month old one of my lovely NCT friends who had a lovely 'penthouse' apartment at St Katherine Docks texted and said 'it's time for pimms on the balcony. So i popped over, let DH know I was there and to come there instead as home as we had decided to have a BBQ when the menfolk finished work. We popped our not yet rolling offspring under a playgym and set about inbibing a 'little' pimms. By the time the menfolk got home we made it through 2 jugs and could barely speak. By the time we walked home at 10pm I couldnt even push DS1's pushchair home! I was obviously BFing and god knows the alcohol content of my milk that night. Amazingly he only had one feed the whole time otherwise was asleep or gurgling with his little mate.

JumpJockey · 05/06/2010 16:08

Trace that paddling pool is genius! We have a couple of those from packing up the kitchen, it's either that or reinflate the birthing pool! Poor poor p, sounds so sad isn't calamine the answer when it gets itchy? Your description the other day of you and L having special time together was so lovely, it sounds like you were really enjoying each other's company

Avo thank goodness for the visitor, what a relief. We've had a few 'naughty' encounters recently, I know DH isn't keen on having DC2 soon but if he was really that against the idea surely he would have suited up. Ahem. (does that sound evil and calculating? I hope not)

Veggie don't feel bad about the finger, it's just an accident and he won't even remember it next week.

On which, we had a top-to-bottom fall down the stairs yesterday dd had gone up to see DH and I assumed he'd put the gate across behind her but evidently not, usually she's very good and stops at the top of the stairs but we think she must have got distracted by something and tumbled. She was absolutely fine about 30 seconds later, I felt so bad for ages but no long term harm.

Am loving the descirptions of babies having their tea in nappies and being showered down sounds about right in the current weather... we're going to finally christen our BBQ this evening, got it about 3 years ago with some B&Q vouchers I got from the ILs for a birthday pressie and have never yet been bold enough to. Something to do with DH's fear of undercooked sausages I think...!

SL DH's employers do sound pretty shitty. I thought his field was more flexible - as in, not the sort of thing where you have to be on a shop floor at certain times or available for meetings at specific times. Grrrr. Hope you've managed to get some of the packing up done and stuff to tip.

DH's partners have decided that yes they're all knackered all the time, but that it's not safe to employ a new doc for at least another year [sob] because nobody knows what the new govt's health policies will be. I keep telling him to give it all up and become a potter, but he's not keen.

daisy sounds like a lovely day you've had. Now get that telly on
Phoebe has even got spots on her tongue and gums And a lot on her bum - even around her bumhole. Poor her - mind you, she seems in fairly good spirits. Her temp this afternoon is 39 so I've just dosed her up on ibuprofen and she's gone to bed. I'm off out [naughty mummy] to a friend's 50th so dh will have to deal with the upset when she no doubt wakes.
Oh and JJ yes we've got the calamine on her - she looks like a dalmation . Keep giving ehr piriton too - no wonder she's not too grumpy - she's probably high as a kite!
Right must go.
Hope you all have lovely evenings.

traceface · 05/06/2010 18:10

oh and veggie - love the description of you being too sloshed to push your buggy home

Rubena · 05/06/2010 20:18

Excellent news Avo*! Thumbs up and sigh of relief....

daisy, I love how you thought of me after you mentioned trash TV Yes the day turned out very nice actually. I didn't make it to the shop as mil called and asked to come over. Never comes empty handed {love that] ds really likes his pool (although I'm sure he'd love trace's style just as much. mil brought him a chair which he wanted to sit on in the pool went to the swings and mil ran around after him while I sat with dh and ate ice cream [pig]
dh just gone to get dinner and a bottle of v chilled white cheerfulness
BBQ tomorrow at mil's so the weekend has turned out well as I get a break there since she does everything! Might talk her into comeing to NZ with us next year even!

Yes Vaggie dh does know me quite well re db-gate. AS much as he has flaws he also has his good points and has promised to step up the effort with things to do- he says it's not that he doesn't want to, it's that he doesn't think

Rubena · 05/06/2010 22:05

JJ meant to say - glad dd is ok. That is exactly the sort of thing dh would forget to do.... We have self closing gates for that very reason

having a wobble about baby names... have gone full circle. Thoroughly confused now, but I won't be using any name unless dh is more than just 'ok' with it
Thinking of telling MIL the shortlist tomorrow and getting her opinion but won't be revealing the ultimate name we choose.

traceface · 05/06/2010 22:48

pubes I met a girl called Lydia today and rather liked the name - thought of you and your list!

Rubena · 06/06/2010 07:21

morning, still have reinforced the crack den look yet but he woke at 0530, nattered away to himself for about an hour and then went back to sleep at 0630 without coming in to our room still asleep now - weird.

Hmmmm not keen on Lydia really, but I'm almost ready to put our whole list on here for opinions... dh has said he is "ok" with Georgia, but then other names I like he has made a point of saying he "prefers that to Georgia" so I wouldn't be happy with that. There are other names I like just as much anyway. I don't think dh can get past the US state connection.

Right so weird that ds has gone back to sleep. DH still asleep. Not sure what to do with myself!

Veggiemummy · 06/06/2010 09:54

Morning ladies. That's great that DS went back to sleep shame you couldn't too Pubie.

I'm a bit grumpy I've just been on FB and responded to a status of a friend of mine. She was DS1's MW and we lived near each other in London and have stayed very good friends. She had a little baby that is about 3 months old now but was born at 31 weeks as my friend had a terrible pregnancy and a bit of a crap placenta. Anyhoo she lives in a little 2 bed flat with her hubby and bub which is really teeny tiny. She posted a little status about how she and hubbu are tip toeing around the flat while their DD naps and having to whisper. She has gotten a few like messages obviously from people who know her predicament and understand. However, 3 annoying women have come on and gone on about how they just put their children down in the room leave them there and make as much noise as they want and their children just have to deal with it. Basically saying look at me aren't I great your crap this has been a great way for me to express my greatness as a mother thankyou very much. But thinnly disguised as 'advice'. It's really annoyed me because my friend is not a woosy parent who panders to her baby (not that I actually think anyone is), but a lovely mum whose had a terrible pregnancy, a scary first month of babies life and is just saying how crazy is this parenting lark that we change our lives so much
for our babies. I posted a comment saying it will last such a short time and all kids are different posting my boys very different sleeping habits as an example. What I really wanted to post was 'ladies do you all want a medal or a chest to pin it on!'. Why is it women like that feel they can say that, but if I turned around and said 'well you women are just mean' they'd think i was terrible and having a go at them.

Right rant over.

WG how was your friend with the blissful birth. I shouldn't judge but she falls into the catagory of women I described above she probably doesn't use their methods but it all the same.

Veggiemummy · 06/06/2010 09:57

Oh and Trace how was P last night?

SummerLightning · 06/06/2010 13:12

trace poor little P and her spots on top of spots. Sounds rubbish!!!

veggie yes that is annoying. Smuggos. Definitely luck of the draw whether you have deep sleepers that you can't wake for love nor money or light sleeper. In fact my DS goes through phases. So hopefully the 3 annoying women will experience different phases in the future and have to tip toe around!!
Though I also find it funny when someone post on facebook "ohhh, I was up at 5:30 I'm tired" and often someone else comes along and says "That's nothing, I've been up since 4!". Facebook is funny.

wg I want to hear about el smuggo too. Glad the first session went well with the counselling.

rubes you should put your list on! Even if people have different opinions it may help you make your mind up. I think DH and I have decided now, for a boy as well as a girl (and you would approve of the boy's name rubes, ) I am not so sure on Georgia myself, I liked it when you first mentioned it but I keep hearing Georgia's mentioned since, and i don't know why it has made me go off it. The girl who won Junior Masterchef was called georgia, she was cute as well! Hmmm...I do think if your DH is not that keen then maybe you should try for another of your favourites. What happened to arti and poisons DD's name?? Is that still on the list?
Hey LadyT you were going to tell us your no 1 boys name after the 20 week scan?? Come on, spill!

Right off to cook curry now. Yum.

traceface · 06/06/2010 14:26

hi all.
even more spots...
she was up a lot last night and today the grumpiness has kicked in She's trying to scratch them now. I'm wondering if one of her spots is infected because it's got a really big red area round it which is growing, and she's had a high temp since all night and today again. But I guess she might be hot even with no infected spots. I'll keep an eye.
veggie your friend is lucky to have you to go on FB and remnind her of of a sane point of view.
pubes how long did ds stay asleep?

traceface · 06/06/2010 14:27

excuse typos above - i blame lack of sleep

Hehe daisy you've made me giggle. Well after loads of pimms and full fat lemonade yesty Daisy I've just eaten almost all the microwave popcorn that DH made for the boys to eat while watching Bolt. Oops. I'll have to do a full yoga sesh tonight.

Bless my friend she came on and very politely explained that their DD has had terrible reflux and needs to be say up post feed etc etc anyway she is doing her best etc etc. I don't think the smug mummies got the picture as one came on going on about how it's common for premmies to get reflux, a completely vacuous fact. But one lovely lady came on and said 'no advice, just wish I could give you a hug'. Sometimes the best thing we can do to support is just listen, and let each other know we understand. Hey ho.

Hey speaking of FB did you see Bisou's DS can count to ten, bloody hell! I'm still proud of DS2's monkey impressions, but counting, & to ten. Amazing.

Trace, I was worried that DS2 had infected Spots when he was poxed up so took him to the GP to double check. He was fine but he did say if he developed a temp to bring him back.
